I've been following this game since cbt, but only started playing in obt. (like many)
I'm not following this guide down to the core(yes, I am).... but...


How do you even get spell totems before reaching Act2 Cruel?

I've been told trading for them is nearly impossible for some reason. (don't know if this is true)
Also, I'm a rather... 'bashful'(nice way to put it) person when it comes to trading and I only trade when I'm 100% sure of an item's worth and trade value, which is hard to makes sense of in this game. (for me so far)

I'm kinda stuck at act1[cruel] now(before heading off to Fetid Pool).
I can't walk in there without risking nearly-instant death at every few steps from getting charged and buttraped.

I have Raise Zombie, Raise Spectre, Minion HP, Frost Wall for defense/tank/mitigation.
My gear is essentially... crap. I've rather negated the point of getting relatively good gear so soon.
I also have fire and bear trap which I can't/don't use right now due to unknowingly over-leveling them and now lacking a bit of Dex to use them. (I'll be able to when I take the dex node shown in your build)

I currently have 1 Passive skill tree point(had it for awhile), waiting to be used for the DT passive when I get a spell totem... but... from what I hear, it's only obtainable as a rare drop or from Act 2[cruel].

I'm at lv39 right now.
I know no one is obliged to help, so this is just a query to the methods of this build/guide.


Edit : Nvm, got it a few seconds later for way overprice(3 chaos, 3 alch) I assume it's overprice. ofc.
Still, gonna leave this here as a valid question.

Edit : Even after DT, without LMP(at least) and a decent freeze rate, it's not really the most effective killer. I find myself having to keep re-spawning these so very often.

So, we have a skill that's pretty much as "broken" as it gets, trivializing huge chunks of the game. Instead of fixing said broken skill, you're suggesting that the devs should instead tune every single other skill in the game (and make sure nothing breaks in the process, such as weird scaling issues) AND tweak the values of every single monster in the game so that everything isn't just a simple faceroll through?

I guess you didn't really think this through at all or try to apply any logic?

2) yes. ok for questions like this, it's very easy to just read the skill description on the skill gem (on wiki)

Description: Bear trap (trap, spell, duration). Hence the reason bear trap is so OP because it does ridiculous physical non-elemental dmg that scales with spell dmg, spell crit and multiplier. basically physical dmg that scales with spell bonus = broken.

3) yes. no crit chance is additive

4) because it takes too many points.

I noticed you removed the Templar build. Why is that? Is it because Templars aren't viable for Double Totems anymore?

How are you doing so far in open beta (damage/defense wise)?

I started yesterday evening and I'm now at lvl 35 after killing Piety in normal difficulty. I took your advice to play in a party and it really helps with progress. Levels are coming soo fast. =)

Anyways, I had to do some areas alone and I was always fine until now. As main attack I am using Freezing Pulse with LMP and Added Lightning Damage since lvl 19. Works pretty damn well and I didn't feel weak since. Freezing Pulse with LMP can (and will) hit single targets more than once (contrary to skills like Split Arrow), which makes it really good. And with Clarity active there's no Mana problem at all, I rarely have to use a flask.

I followed your leveling builds almost exactly, except for 2 or 3 points maybe. And if everything works well I'm gonna get Double Totems at 42 and switch to Ice Spear then.

Thanks for the great guide! I would like to see a short video of you roflstomping content with a close-to-finished build. =)
