[Strongest Solo Variation: Projectile Madness Spectres] LMP/GMP Ice Spear 2x Totem 2x Curse 3x Traps

I'm doing the spectre variation and doing fine atm on cruel a3 start. Killed oak solo. Level 49 atm.

Current build: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgMAAP0C_gdjEVAUsBbzF1AXVBzcHRQigSY8LKctRy-dOjA74ULDTC1QQlcrWfNaK13yZp5r220ZcFJw1XNTfll_xoIQgh6IQot6jDaOPI9Gm6Gj8qcIpyusmLvWwBrAVMHFwfPQ0Nrd34TfsOL35oHyHffX-tI=

Next steps: Take dex node near assassination, take +1 spectre and minion HP near it and then take the mana nodes near spectre nodes. Last Ill take double curse I think, or maybe ill respec mana into double curse and mana last. Thats it since ill probably be 65-70 by then.

As people said, its not a killing machine! But its a great soloer and party build! Advance with totems and run around them and you can't die! Summon skellies for facetanking/arrowtanking and GG.

Ofc I might get pwned in merci, but we'll see!
Hey,

So I m getting lvl 62 with this build and trying to plan ahead the future. Right now I am at solaris temple and I have had no real difficulty since lvl 52. Only died once (Oak) on merciless and it was my mistake for not being aware enough.

This is indeed an endgame build and cruel was actually harder than merciless.

----------------------------------------------

I am currently facing mana issue and although I took ALL the witch mana 8% mana nodes, I am only at 880 mana which is low compared to my friends's shadow who gets 1200 for the same level ? I would like to be running 3 auras: Purity / Clarity / Discipline but I can only manage 2 at the moment which is a shame. I wonder if I should start picking lots of 20% mana regen nodes and drop the mana regen aura or if this is just a stuff problem and I need to get items with +mana ?

I am also considering following 2 different future paths:

Choice 1./ going for specter variations but to be frankly honest, I have kept and leveled a raise specter gem since the beginning and tried almost every mob on the way to A3 merciless with support minion life - support damage or support speed. The Damage done by the raised specter is next to useless and I do not wish to have to travel to specific areas to renew my specters

Choice 2./ continue pushing on the damage for ice spear. There is easy to get nodes on the shadow and on the wichc side which could increase cast / speed damage but I m worried that the end damage of ice spear will still be mediocre at best ? Has someone tried to max it out and see the results / whether it is worth it ?

Final question :

Below is the stuff I currently wear _ would appreciate feedback on what I should aim to replace / improve next (except the belt which I know is crap). My big worry is that I feel I already have very high spell dmg object and my dmg is not so good. Even maxed firetrap.

It is a stuff problem, you have almost no mana on your gear. I don't have much mana either honestly but I don't run purity so it isn't an issue. Mana regen, on the other hand, I stack quite a bit of, and you have virtually none. I count 40% mana regen on your gear.

I have 187% mana regen from gear, and 100% mana regen from passive points. Your mana regen multiplies clarity so it is pretty epic. With my mana regen and clarity I can do 50% regen maps and only hit my mana pots occasionally. In maps without mana penalty I don't even bring mana pots. (Three quicksilver, two map dependent - usually granite, sometimes resist)

To make spectres good you need to support them with GMP. Fireball ribbons or titty monsters or other strong projectile minions deal good damage when supported with GMP. Keep in mind spectre variant will have 3-4 spectres, not one.

Ice spear damage is not good, and never will be. I use 3x firetraps and get a lot more damage from them than from my totems. Totems can kill stuff, but not at a tolerable speed.

For easier content I actually swap to freezing pulse totems rather than ice spear totems. They do a lot more damage (but aren't nearly as safe).

Most of the time though, I'm doing maps in a group, and my group greatly appreciates my crowd control (as well as my three curses). With elemental proliferation on my ice spear totem link I freeze entire rooms full of guys solid. I provide at least as much safety as a full on minion witch, without the lag.

If you want to kill fast, re-roll something else, honestly. This build kills safely, not quickly. This build is generally just not that great for solo play, it is a very strong group build. You can solo, but at equivalent level with equivalent gear almost any other build will kill faster. As I indicated above I swap to freezing pulse totems if I want to farm easier content solo, and that goes relatively quickly. I also swap to freezing pulse totems if there's a summoner in the map group - don't need to freeze AND tank all the mans, one will do fine.

Thank you for your feedback magicrectangle, this is much appreciated indeed. I have started levelling a 2nd fire trap given most my damage come from there anyway

I do agree that double ice spear totem is not a damage crazy build, its a safety build which is perfect for me at the moment while nursing my 4 month old daughter and not being 100% focus on game.

Now I m wondering if indeed an elemental proliferatin gmp ice spear totem (+ all the freezing duration passive) + 2 specter + 4 zombie would not be indeed enough for my security need and I could get rid of second totem to switch a direct damage GMP freezing pulse from the character

Sure it would not be a double totem build anymore but I m just thinking of all the passive damage increase I could take with 15 additional passives
I run the spectre build too, but honestly the icespear totem does good dmg on normal mobs supported by double curse. For rares and bosses like op wrote just add traps in the mix, more the traps lvl up more they are op! And last, mana reg is never enough. My totem swapped with item quantity costs like 200 mana out of 300 on a base pool of around 1000, not a big deal thx to regen :) also on maps with 50% less reg.

Imo around lvl 74 u have all u need on skill points to rock. If I remember well I started to use double curse really late like around lvl 64.

For flasks usually I just need quicksilver and hp for pets.

My gear
Spoiler

I have to work on it but for now still rocking! Doing lvl 69 maps really easy, just had no drop for 70+ and no chance to try.

Just follow the guide and u are fine, Hyper covered all on page 1.

You may need to re-evaluate your definition of the word "good." Yes you can absolutely kill mobs with it, no question. But if you've ever played a freezing pulse build, or a gmp+chain fireball build, or an eth knives build, or a lightning arrow build, etc, then you know it just can't compare. Ice spear totem does not do "good" damage. It does bad damage, with amazing crowd control ability.

Ice spear totem's damage may feel "good" if you're 75 with good gear and farming docks - heck almost any ability would work fine for that. But in maps, particularly higher level ones, it will not feel "good," not even for normal mobs. At least not if you have something that is actually good to compare it against.

well, like I said, for now I'm stuck on maps lvl 69 and most of the stuff dies pretty fast also without spectres up, later on I trust u :)

I have a noob question about game mechanics regarding the spell damage bonuses on wands: do those bonuses just apply to the traps in the spectre build or does it affect ice spear on the spell totem and spectre fireballs as well?

I think, going by the POE wiki, it only affects spells you actively cast, so only Fire Trap would be affected and I assume it would work on both the direct damage and DOT portions of that spell.

I'm only 42 right now, so my current gameplay is a far, sad cry compared to the glory of Hypershatter's full build.
