I can't find a 5l chest for the life of me, so I guess I have to go 4L chest. Now that leaves me with spell totem, gmp, ice spear, and the last slot being reduced mana or faster casting?

For easier content, faster casting for faster killing. For harder content, elemental proliferation for freezing the whole freaking screen solid.

As far as the last modification of the OP, the Spectre build, i'm sorry but i have to point that what sets this build aside, is the double-totem thing. Bringing summons into the equation, albeit slightly, makes this a summoner build.

When I think "summoner build" I think of using summons to tank for you, that is they are your crowd control. With this build, ice spear totems are your crowd control, spectres are just a cheap (points wise) way to add a substantial amount of damage.

You're right though, I don't do spectres precisely because I'm too lazy to get and keep good ones. I want to just walk onto a map and do it. Keeping level ~62 flame sentinels alive in a map 10 levels higher than them is possible, but it is irritating, so I don't bother. Obviously if there's a good monster type available in the map you're running spectres are great, but you can't rely on that.

I don't really solo with my dual totem char though. If I did, I'd probably want the spectres for the extra damage, as my personal damage is the opposite of good. I'm all about the crowd control and debuffing. I'm almost always grouped with a lighting arrow ranger putting out the damage, and occasionally other damage dealers too. I'm valuable to the group because of permafreeze and triple curse.

Of course it is possible to do okay damage with ice spear totems alone, but by ignoring damage I was able to very cheaply get tons of ES, max resists, and tons of mana and mana regen. My gear only cost a few chaos and I can permafreeze any map of any level. Grouping for the win.
For the spectre variation of your builds @what level do you do you spec into CI just wondering cause I am leveling up right now and I am on hardcore also how do you survive the early game or do you just group from level 1. Anyways just wondering sounds like a fun build!

CI is tough to pull off in hardcore. You'll probably want to put points into health nodes while leveling, planning on spending respec points on them later.

Don't even consider CI until you've got at least 3000 energy shield. You'll be in act 3 merciless farming docks before you get CI, most likely - unless you have twink gear from another character.

Ok thanks alot for the info first time playing witch and the spectre build seems pretty cool
Hey hypershatter, just wanted to say thanks again, this build really rocks. And I really like that it's an ongoing guide and you continue to test and research as much as your funds allow, to improve on an already awesome build - instead of just writing up a guide once off and done :)

Finally got myself some Bones of Ullr, got burned on the 4 socket and linking though but got there eventually - now just need a few levels to get those additional summoner points and test the new build properly :)

Bringing summons into the equation, albeit slightly, makes this a summoner build. This is NOT to say, that summoners are bad, but just that it's an entire different build. The whole carebear factor of summons and the prospect of having to heal them (or else go back to Temple3 or whatever to find new ones), goes against the care-free-plonk-two-totems mindset. Just my point of view.

i have to disagree there. If you think 5 points investment in summoner nodes = a summoner build, then thats an insult to every summoner builds out there. At what point do you draw the line? If I only summon 2 spectres does that make it a summoner build too? Do every class that use skele totems and zombies count as summoner class?

no. you have to invest a lot more than 5 points and a bones of ullr to be considered a different build. Ice spear totems are still the pillars of this build, which makes it a dual totem build. spectres are just addons, albeit very good addons.
