Guide: Fireball CI Curser - Proliferated Burning Critical Fire Damage | In-depth | SC |

The build is still viable. Burning damage got nerfed from 133% over 4 seconds to 80% over 4 seconds, but now generic damage and fire damage nodes apply to burning damage. The current build has 42% increased fire damage, so the burning damage will be 114% over 4 seconds. It still is a nerf but not THAT big (and it can be further decreased by taking some additional fire damage nodes).
Haven't felt much of a nerf on my end either. I feel like I do more dps in fact, but my build has a lot of damage node. The real hurt is curse immune maps are (another) instant no-go.

For reference, here's what I run at level 75:

We have access to a few spell damage nodes:

starting node = 12% spell dmg, 8% spell dmg
firewalker node = 6% fire dmg, 12% fire dmg +15% fire res
elemental dominion = 8% spell dmg, 20% elemental dmg +20 int
(same node) = 8% spell dmg, 8% spell dmg
elementalist = 10 int, 10% spell dmg +10 int
blaze = 6% fire dmg, 8% fire dmg +5% chance ignite

and 6% fire dmg littered a bit everywhere in the tree

Which 6 gems do you all think are best for a 6L?

I'm using fireball-increased crit dmg-elem proliferation-incr burning dmg-fire penetration-life leech.

I may drop life leech in favor of something else, like perhaps mana leech or reduced mana. I picked up the ghost reaver talent as I was sick of being squishy. I'm not sure it's worth it though.

Before adjustments is it a loss of 12.3% ignite dps. Had you had perfect 30% fire damage on your wand then you would only lose 2.3% of your ignite dps.

Only fire damage nodes and elemental damage nodes will affect this, things such as area damage will not apply since it is not technically an aoe, and neither will elemental dominion since it only works for spells.

There is a possibility that fire penetration now applies to ignite in which case we would actually see increased burning damage after the patch.

Keep your eyes out for molten golems with extra fire resists and such, things that would normally take ages to kill with ignite and tell me if you notice a difference.

I am simply just tired of this garbage. No Regeneration maps, Blood magic maps and now these maps(although these maps can still be cleared without too much trouble), and they further nerf damage and curse effectiveness etc. I am just fucking tired of it and the favoring of no brained instant damage life leech builds.

Maybe i'll come back to this char if they add a "No Leech" mod for maps.

from patch notes:

Modifiers based on how the damage is dealt will apply as appropriate - for example, increased area damage and increased projectile damage will both apply to the poison clouds from Poison Arrow, as it fills an area and is an effect of a projectile.

so increased area damage should work with fireball.
yea just on the instant damage portion of the hit, it won't apply a second time to burning like fire damage will because ignite doesnt count as aoe.

yes i think youre right. with concentrated damage we would deal enourmos damage if it would scale twice. but even without i feel like dealing more damage after patch.

thx for the guide and your updates, this guide inspired me for my main character.

forgot 10% fire damage from quality fire penetration,

that puts theoretical burn dps loss at just 9%, with a possible gain of 1% if one has a weapon with +30% fire damage.

EDIT: do everyone feel like they do more damage now?

I think the 'dps gain' is just because the ignite damage is done on a shorter timespan, rather than absolute more damage generated.

On the bright side, Chris posted this in the 1.0.3 teaser:

"
Passive skills to support degeneration and chaos damage skills.

It sounds like 1.0.2 didn't wreck the build that badly, and 1.0.3 will potentially buff it up again. Hooray.

I made a character following this a few days before 1.0.2 came out, so I've been pretty nervous about end-game viability. Now all I need to worry about is being too poor to afford the uniques and the fact that I die (in cruel) when stuff looks at me too hard. Yay.
