But except for lightning traps (that spreds), what's the purpose of triggerin the trap if no one is there to get hit? Isn't that a slot waste?

I think it's because the trap trigger radius is smaller than the area of cold snap. But I don't think it's worth it though. I'd rather use another support gem.

I know I kinda brushed past it in an earlier post about my mana regen when it comes to Mind Over Matter, but...Mind Over Matter IS the reason I don't use Arctic Armor. The more I chew into my mana regen, the less "effective HP" I have through Mind Over Matter.

As for the Fire Pen > Reduced Duration gem swap. Two reasons:

First, fire pen causes your damage to be higher, thus causing your crits to be higher, thus causing your ignites to be beastly.

Second, the real "killer" from Fire Trap is the triggered explosion and when it does crit, the ignite damage. The burning ground portion of Fire Traps is just a little sugar on top. By making the swap you proposed, you're causing some traps to auto-explode without landing a blow on an enemy, therefore wasting a chance for it to crit and ignite...all in exchange to have more of the burning ground laying around in the slight chance a monster will walk on it later on.

As for the Trigger radius, my build takes +25% trigger radius. You'd be surprised just how far traps are triggered from at +25% radius.

Because Cold Snap is a large AoE. There's plenty of times that mobs standing between two traps will be hit by both. Fire Traps AoE is much smaller and you want to force those hits to land on at least 1 monster to entice crits. You don't need to worry about that with Cold Snap, it's better for all 3 to explode and cause a huge line of Cold AoE death

Currently running this build, LvL60 atm. Haven't been having to much trouble but have a few quick questions.

Understanding that the gear has a very open range of items that can be used. 2 required but the rest open. Was curious if you could post your actual item set-up currently. Just to get a better basis on how your going about things.

Helpful hint for new players trying this build, try and get the Deerstalker boots from the trade chat or a friend. Once you get that and get the rotation of Cold Snap/Chaining other traps/Movement speed down its GG from there. :P

But so far this is an amazing build/guide. Definitely not disappointed going this route with my Shadow
would using power charge on crit gem with any of traps yield way higher overall damage or will it not work ? thinking either fire trap since it has highest base crit maybe ice trap since reduced duration on it doesnt feal necessary imo.

Thanks for this build man, this is a really fun build to play. Currently level 52. Got my Deerstalkers and Sunblast, and just equipped Cloak of defiance. Using low ilvl searing touch and this build does such good damage. The defense was kinda low until i equipped the Cloak because i didnt even bother getting the Mind over matter node but now that I have the cloak on the damage is very easy to cope with again. The mana regen is so fast its amazing.
