[1.0.2] Tri Element Trapper
cold snap spell + boots = cold snap trap ;3

" as the poster above me mentioned, the Deerstalker boots have the affix that gems are supported by a level 11 trap gem. By putting cold snap in them you make cold snap into a trap. ProbablyGettingNerfed - L100 Occultist

So now that I'm progressing towards mid 80s, and doing higher and higher maps...I figured to give this build a real true test last night, and it worked out very well.
I ran a unique Poorjoy's map. For those of you that haven't had the "pleasure" of running one of these maps, it's a unique map where all the monsters have about +150% to both their health, and damage output. Yes, +150%, that means they hit over twice as hard as normal. For those of you more experienced players, here's a little inside on how this build fared in that map. I didn't die. I gained 30% of a level, at level 83. It was quite a kite fest, and I only had one close call. There was a rare monster that had additional physical damage, and he nearly one shot me. Outside of that, the build stood up just fine. Because their health pools were so large, the "normalness" of killing white monsters with fire trap obviously wasn't there. The fact that Cold Snap is so effective at freezing was quite handy. I'd do a rotation of the 3 traps, they would all be frozen, and the second rotation would finish them off. My traps are about to hit level 19, and with the DPS I already do, I can only imagine how much easier things will get with level 19 and then even level 20 traps. I'm really pleased with this build. Been playing since the beginning of Open Beta and have had many characters. Ground Slam Mara, EK Shadow, CI Dual Striker, the list goes on...and this is by far my favorite character. Because the comparison between PoE and D2 is blatantly obvious, this character's playstyle really reminds me of my favorite D2 character, a Frozen Orb/Meteor Sorc. Because my trap laying speed is so quick, it almost feels as if my lightning and cold snap traps have that Frozen Orb feel, while my Fire Trap brings the "BOOM" that Meteors did in D2. I've started a character using this build and I like it this far =). But I have a few questions, and if they have been covered I'm sorry :p. The questions are about the elemental prolif gems linked to fire and cold traps. For the lightning trap I understand its because you want to spread the shockstacks.
What's the reason for the ele prolif on both those traps? For the fire traps is it for the crits? for extra burning? because the burning on the ground wont prolif? right? And for the cold trap? If the cold trap freezes one target, will the freeze spread to all targets? :o |
|
" Lightning to spread shocks. Fire Trap's "burning ground" will NOT cause prolif burning on other targets, however when fire trap is triggered, it hits a small AOE area with a big blast of fire before the burning ground. If that blast should crit, the prolif then spreads the burning, and trust me, it's MASSIVE damage and later on in levels probably becomes the #1 source of your damage. Cold trap is for exactly what you said. Cold damage has chances to freeze and chill. Chill is based off damage done proportional to their max HP, it does NOT need to be a crit. Freeze happens on crits, however the Cold Snap skill in particular has an additional chance to Freeze which does NOT need to be a crit to happen. When either of those ailments happens, the prolif spreads it around the area. IGN: Arkon_Monk

Is it possible to post a movie of you farming a map or docks just to show what it looks like. It seems kinda interesting to me but i've followed lots of builds (without a movie) and eventually they became pretty boring + i think it would attract more players to try that build if they get to see what it actually contains. And how does it deal with reflects, does the reflect actually goto the traps or does the character get the reflect damage ?

|
" Lightning thorns/ele reflect is not an issue becuase like totems the damage is transfered to the traps (which arent there after they trigger) so you take zero damage from reflect mechanics. If he doesnt post a video i will post one, although im still only 55 atm. Thats said i have most of the mechanics hes using included in my shadow i.e. multitraps/mind over matter/cold snap trap conversion and sunblast trigger. I have to say this is one of the funnest builds I have played in a long time and i have played just about every varriation. " I stream from time to time using twitch inside the game. As far as making a video, I honestly have never made a video, but I'll give it a try the best I can. Even if I get something done basic, perhaps it will help everyone a bit. I'll have it up on Youtube in a couple hours. Alright I lied, not sure how to make this video stuff lol. If anyone wants to see it in action, msg me in-game and I'll turn on my stream through the game to show you how it works.
