[1.0.2] Tri Element Trapper

Hi

Why use frost nova trap instead of cold snap trap? Cold snap has higher damage and freeze chance.

And another question, why shock nova instead of lightning trap? Lightning trap has nice range and you free up one socket.

Thanks!

Ice nova's radius is 30 while Cold snap's 16, and you want to hit as many mobs as possbile to trigger Elemental Equilibrium. But then with freez chance i guess its personal preference to use what you want.

As lightning trap goes, it shoots projectiles. Mobs close to a trap will be hit, but those little further might just stand between them. Also, you wont gain anything from increased radius bonuses from Carcass Jack and Divinarius since its not aoe. Most important thing though, is that Shock nova has 30% chance to shock on hit at 20% quality.

Very clear, thanks!
Just wanted to check back in and report on how the build has done for me.

I am currently level 80 and I have tried lots of different minor variations with the build. The main change I have stuck with is I am no longer using elemental equilibrium because I found sometimes you just need to triple fire trap things if you want to survive.

My current links are;

Fire Trap -> Fire Penetration -> Concentrated Effect -> Increased AoE -> Added Chaos Damage

This gives me 4.2k on the tooltip with a lvl 18 firetrap. Currently I am not stacking crit so this is my preferred setup. Previously when I stacked crit (and used crit weakness) I subbed out the last two gems for elemental proliferation and increased critical damage.

Coldsnap -> Trap -> Elemental Proliferation -> Added Cold Damage

This gives me 1.9k on the tooltip with a lvl 17 cold snap. I was using cold penetration in the past but switched to added cold damage when I started using elemental weakness after transitioning away from crit.

Lightning Trap -> Multiple Traps -> Elemental Proliferation -> Added Lightning Damage

This is my weakest skill, it is around 900 on the tool tip. I will soon move back to shock nova since it spreads shock stacks better now that I don't crit as much.

For aura's I am running discipline and clarity. I am able to support a lvl 15 arctic armour comfortably right now. When I get my next three nodes I should be able to add in grace. Currently I can run the 3rd aura, but my unreserved mana is only 300 which is not practical due to mind over matter.

The main reason I transitioned away from crit is because I am running maps solo I prefer having consistent damage. Also if my damage doesn't rely on crit I am able to gear more for not ripping than increasing my damage.

Great build over all and I will likely do something similar in the new league. After playing a spectral throw character in the domination 1 week race I realized how powerful the trapper really is.
Currently lvl 68 with this build so far, and it certainly is a fun build :D

Only issue I'm having is with boss mobs. Piety seems to take ages to kill for me, the traps don't seem to hurt her much, and my bear traps are only about 2.5k (tooltip).

My gems are obviously still low lvl (at lvl16), but even then it just seems a bit slow.

Hey Nosrek, could you post your passives and gear? Thanks!
Very nice build, looking very strong so I'll give it a shot (rather casual here)!

Is it really important to have a Sunblast or does it simply change the playstyle of this build (instant traps vs trap setups)?

And if you do not play in groups who can support Discipline, is it worth it to run it yourself together with clarity to give yourself more mana? Or is having hybrid ev/es gear enough?
How viable is this builf for HC or is this a standard build only? Thanks

This build is extremely viable in HC. I leveled using this guide and had an 84 scion trapper in the HC league that just finished (Nemesis). Was able to solo maps as well as play in groups. Heres my gear and passives.

Edit: I'd also like to say the is the funnest build I've played in PoE and I plan on playing another trapper in the SotV.

thanks for the reply. I think I'll play this in sotv. seems all the streamers are going totem/exploding corpse builds. this will be cheaper if the streaming guys stick to their builds. so excited!! woo hoo
