Custom/Diamond Avatars, and their stories.

My avatar isn't particularly clever. My user name is NuclearRaven so I asked for a nuclear raven. How I came to use the name is slightly more interesting. It is a homage to my favourite boss from another indie game which is excruciatingly difficult. The artwork and theme for the item I helped design are also entirely inspired by her. I wanted the name of it to also be a throw back to her, unfortunately it wasn't allowed in the PoE lore.

The game's name is Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism. It doesn't get much more indie than this game as it was created entirely by one man. That said it also lacks the sort of polish PoE possesses. To his credit ZUN has a magnificent flare for character design and music composition.

My favourite character is called Utsuho Reiuji. She is a hell raven who was tricked by a god into devouring another god gaining the power over nuclear fusion which she goes on a rampage with. In the battle against her she literally throws small suns at you. I still have not managed to beat her in normal difficulty, but I might just be a bad player. Somehow she isn't the most overpowered character in the Touhou universe. She's only a pet.

Initially I was going to make my item something that had a weird or funny quirk to it. I quickly worked out I'm just not that inventive and fell back on my user name for inspiration there too. Besides as a theme to work with she is simple and straight forward. Fire, chaos and power.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a couple more diamond packs and using her or other Touhou characters as the theme. That said I would wait a while before making my next one.

I'm pretty obsessed with Genealogy - I'm currently working on documenting my entire family tree at the moment, and have been collecting (along with my Uncle) as many of our family documents as possible. My family history is really old, seeming to date back as early as the 9th Century AD originally from the Wales area. In searching for this history I've sort of fell in love with family crests/markings/signets/seals and decided I'd create a seal for my character, so that's how the avatar came about.

I've played around with a few ideas for my unique (my first one was turned down sadly :( ), but I haven't revisited the thought for a month or so now. I will wait to see what Open Beta has to offer before making any decisions regarding my unique item creation.

My girlfriend thankfully lets me feed my gaming addiction, as I support the entire household while she continues with her schooling. So she doesn't care what I do with the money as long as I pay the bills, but...in discovering just about a week ago that I have yet another little gamer on the way I'm sure my pocket money will yet again receive a slight cut. I'll have two kids under 2 years old o.0

Oh wow...Raven that was awesome! I love the music you got too...it was fantastic. Gotta admit, the pic is awesome too and I cant wait to see your item in game.

Nothing wrong with using a set standard for your name. Its your alter Ego, and what people like to call you in the gaming universe. I have used Zalm since the first days of Xbox live back in the day with Halo:CE. Nothing wrong with it. Lotta kids though...better get some decent 'family friendly' games for the munchkins! Gratz btw.

A fellow in game named WhozWhoz (epsiIon) was chatting with me fairly recently and somehow the idea of a kiwi signal came up, probably related to the fact that I'm often called in to moderate/mediate when things get a bit hairy.

That's it, really. I loved the idea and ran with it. The moon-cross motif is still in there, but this avatar is much more reflective and appropriate to my presence/role here, whereas the other one was more of a hope that perhaps has not come true. I still need to wield the sword sometimes after all.

That Charan is a bit of a broody-pants who wears a black cloak and hood probably doesn't hurt the 'batman' equivalence either.

Strangely enough I agree. I can't wait to see it either. I think it'll be a while after it's inclusion before anyone manages to find it though.

The more I get back into lurking on here and hyping myself over this game, the more ideas about possible unique items I have and the closer I come to throwing yet another grand GGG's way.

This thread is awesome! I love the Diamond stories- thank you to all those who shared. I hope there will eventually be a list of the Diamond uniques so we have a guide for those who want to collect them all. :)

Bringing it back...again, in hopes of anyone with new Avatars to share some more stories with the community.

I'll be sending the final payment for my Diamond upgrade when I break out of work for lunch in a couple of hours. I plan to request an avatar of my dog Willem as some sort of Wraeclastian humanoid. I also have a hunch that we'll be able to purchase the option to design our own monsters or something (there is a slight hint to that in the artwork on the custom content micro transactions tab), and plan to have him made into one of those eventually if the option exists.
