I Cast Magic Missile! - Cantrip's Guide to Ethereal Knives

I'll try to put up videos tomorrow if I get Twitch to work. Any improvement from now on is gonna be slow (especially Empower level 3) and minor (except Empower level 3), so it's a good time to show what it can do.

I need a bit of advice. I am using this build on Dom and am currently 53 and still running as ST. I have most of your core passives (except for the faster casting nodes immediately at the top of the scion start), IR, Steel Skin and am almost to EB (grabbing the life/mana nodes on the way). I am playing self-found and have very old gear now but still able to clear Act3 Cruel Docks without trouble. I found a 2-hand sword with base 91-211 phys plus 21-31 cold damage in my mid-30's that has served me well. All-in-all the easiest character I have leveled so far. I've been using ST-LMP-LL in a 3-link, Heavy Blow face tanking some rares, Enfeeble and Bear Trap, and running Clarity (max for my level) and lvl 4 AA.

I recently found an ilvl 50 AR/EV chest piece that I crafted to a 4L with GGRB sockets, and tried running EK-FP-FC-LL (all maxed to my level). I switched out my 2-hand for an ok (but not great) wand plus shield. But I found it to not be as good as ST in terms of clear speed and life leech (I found I had to health pot a lot more). So I ended up chroming back to GGRR for use with ST (adding fire damage to my original combo). I can still continue on as ST but I will need to upgrade my gear soon.

So my question is: What do I need to make the switch to EK? Do I need additional gear or passives to smooth the transition?

EK might do less damage than ST if you have a good weapon, since it depends on level a lot more. Good wand, good Rustic Sash, good spell shield. That's about it, and those nodes you mentioned, but mostly it's a matter of time and level vs. how good a weapon you have with ST.

It's a choice, being a caster.

Will update stats soon, my gems are slowly all getting to 20 or 20/20, and that adds some damage. Empower is leveling ever so slowly (...on someone else, from whom I shall buy it :D).

Projectile Physical Attack Damage is available to the Shadow, Ranger, Duelist, Witch and Scion from the "The Siren's Cadence" quest in Cruel difficulty.

Havent played since the weekend so I havent gotten a chance to check out the new gem. How does it look for this build?

I'm still waiting for something like that for spells :)

Updated Stats. gn.

Adding Freeze Mine + Added Cold + Proliferation next. Will use Temporal Chains as curse.

I suspect bosses like Dominus or Piety will be a faceroll if I do this right.

75% all res, nice armour, running Hatred only. And I can faceroll Piety (the only issue I had was a detonate dead on a rogue exile corpse...). I didn't test Dominus yet. And won't until I have more mana.

Well, I think you gear is enough to do Piety, but Dominus (and the Sceptre of God...) will tear you apart.

Way too many Evasion/Armor nodes, and most of the Duelist area you took is wasted. You need more Life, more mana, more Aura nodes if you want more and better auras (and you do!).

The shield has no damage, lots of gear can be upgraded for a 1 chaos item, and you're using a BLUE ring :(

Let's put it this way. How many Regrets/Respec Points do you have, and how much money do you have to trade with?

It's not that what you have doesn't work, is that it can be 10 times better with minimal effort.
