Saint Vitus: Physical crit ranger guide[Always Updated]

I had my doubts about physical damage build performance at around levels 30-35. I did have low damage, leech was joke, mana management was nightmare and it was all going from bad to worse. I found a good weapon and picked up a pace. I'm now lvl62, rocking in Act2 Merciless at the moment.

I definitely suggest you trade for good bow. There is no point in crafting early, you are better off to trade your currency for decent weapon. You can use your Alch or Chaos Orbs that you pick up along the way to buy nice weapon that will make the life much more enjoyable.

So to all aspiring physical damage rangers, keep up the faith and rock on.

My build is slightly diffeent that Victor's but the basics are the same:

I am not quite sure because I'm new to the game, but would it be better to respect the +10 Dex node -next to Fury Bolts- and go the same way through Leather and Steel? It is +16% Armor and Evasion (with Iron Reflex 32%?). So you kinda trade 10Dex for 2 Armor&Evasion nodes...

When you use IR + refelxes node and leather and steel node you reach absurd ammounts of armor, over 10k, and past that point it kind of becomes useless to get more because you will reduce the damage of just about anything, getting that 1% extra DR requires a ridiculous ammount of extra armor from that point on. So its better to just take the dex node and save 1 point for something else

Wish I would have found this guide before making my character. Oh well, think I'm still gonna make it.

Any idea where I should go next? I think I am going to go for the thick skin node and after that go back to dps nodes...

Feels like such a waste taking 8% health nodes, I want my glass cannon fun :(

also does IR turn your evade into armor or it adds the armor additionally?

Hey VictorDoom, thanks for this guide! I'm playing a modified version for Shadow and it's working out great.

Just curious...

You will do a LOT more dps now with the physical buffs for rangers!

What exactly was buffed? Was it the projectile damage nodes before Perfect Aim? Seems like it must have been a decent buff if it adds a lot more dps.

would clarity work with this build good?

Keep going for the life, then the damage normally, it will be basically the same thing just with a bit more life, respec out of it later when you feel like you have enough life already.

IR converts all eva into armor.

Well just to give you an idea a perfectly rolled Harbinger bow (highest flat physical bow) would do over 450 physical damage on the top end, that is close to what a marohi erqui does in dps terms.. altough rolling a perfect harbinger isnt an easy thing to do, that damage makes it worth it ( a perfect roll meaning the bow has: Flaring mod, Tyrannical mod and Emperror's mod).

No, the build does not really need clarity and the mana reservation of clarity is pretty insane.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm still not sure... so did they buff the possible physical damage on bows? I'm trying to figure out if it's a buff to Rangers only, or any physical bow users (like my Shadow). Thanks!

I was wondering if this build is viable in hardcore because right now I'm only level 13 and I've decided that I want to go a physical build. If this build can survive hardcore I'm probably going to restart my ranger but here's my build right now, if I can get any advice on where to go from here I guess I'll continue with this character

Heres my build:

Which skills are highly recommended to use for this builds? Rain of Arrow as a primary attack?

Pretty sure damage for daggers has been buffed too, just physical damage in general has gotten a pretty nice buff :)

Skills and supports are posted in the Guide, just read it, you can also use split arrow if you want.
