Really? I read it several times now in this thread, so sorry for highlighting you, but how does an instant exit help against a one-shot?

No, this is not what he is saying, at all.

And no, we don't specifically plan for quitting out as part of a boss fight. We however are aware it can happen, and some players use this option (including some, but only some, of our developers).

It's possible in Standard as well. The difference between using a portal to exit and logout / Alt + F4 isn't that big. I really don't get the fuss about the escape methods in PoE, D2 wasn't different in that regard.

I can think of many ways to describe how this game treats solo players, but "fine" sure as hell isn't one of them.

That is over 15 hours a day. I wonder if he has ever gone outside in the last 10 months.

I've used esc-logout/exit a couple of times, all but one of them were due to desync; taking damage with no mobs around and either have no time to /oos or see that you are surrounded after you do.
The one time a did do it for other reasons than desync were when I mistakenly forgot some gear, went out to docks with negative fire res in merc and were confronted with hasted voidbearers that blocked the waypoint. Just felt like I didn't want to die to a stupid mistake.

And trust me, most people that alt-f4 are like me, they do it when they lag or desync.
Cuz those are really the only times you have the time to, when you're dealt too much damage while 'being in control' it's because of burst damage and you seldom realize it until you're already dead.

And I also believe that when chris said they balance the boss fights with alt-f4 in mind, a major reason was with the deync issue most people have.
If there was a delay on exiting, they would have to dumb down the bosses so that desync wouldn't automatically lead to death most of the time.
I mean, how fun would it be to play against Brutus/Kole without him being able to kill you in 2-3 attacks? Or being able to tank Pietys ice arrows without a sweat? Cuz that's what removing/adding a delay to exiting would lead to.

Also, I find it rather hilarious that many of the people complaining about alt-f4 in this thread don't even have a character in the top15000 in any league, and those that actually have are all softcore(from the ones I chcked, might've missed one).

It actually makes hardcore more fun, that's what GGG thinks and I agree with them.

Add /disconnect command that shows total number of disconnects/client closes without logout. It has no punishment, so seems no reason to not have it.

this is fucking lame... im lvl 80.. i should be lvl like. 95.. i have 1512 deaths... many deaths to desync, many deaths... i jump in a horde of ez zombies, some random super BS monster with a one hit kill move comes from off screen and joins the fight and kills me....

in no time during this did i ever reason that i should quick-exit the game... it just seems lame, and never came to mind... especially, my loading times are HORRIBLE...

so..... i say remove xp death penalty if so many people are wussily avoiding it with the exploit anyway... the real players are the ones penalized... lame...

... this makes me sick... i want to quit POE.... but i like it... but i want to quit now ugh...
... i like the game, but, ... man ... this is laaammee...

I'll resist giving my opinion on the issue (since no one cares anyway) and instead point out that the instant-logout behaviour that Alt-F4 depends on also saves us from uncontrollable deaths due to disconnects.

Losing hardcore characters in D3 due to that stupid ten second (or whatever it was) disconnect timer was WAY more frustrating for me than any desync-induced incident has been in PoE.
