No Summoner!!!

I see that my summoner thread got necro'd. I do appreciate all the responses and I think I have the answer to my original question. FWIW I don't see the continuous summoner-hate on the searching for party board these days. Perhaps there's a lot more build diversity now than there used to be, or at least a move to more phys melee builds. Odds are now that people joining your group won't be a summoner so no need to tell them to sit in the back of the bus.

I remember when Kripp did the full summoner 1 week race. Good times and their clear speed was way higher than any other group.

Summoners either really rock or really suck. There is very little middle ground.

If your minions are dying faster than you can replace them, you die very quickly. If not, your going to steamroll. I imagine the effect would only be magnified in a group.

Last night my summoner hit a map boss and I did not realize it was there until it was nearly dead.

Dont use skellys and thats it,and cull with something like arc.

My guess is probably the huge number of minions result is massive lagfests. If you've played Diablo 2, you'd often find your game straining to keep running when multiple skeletons are around and other minions throwing spells.

my personal modification to pack sizes, impossible to rush acts, cuz mobs fill every single tile. waaaaaaaaay more fun than summoners, and back to topic, no lag at all

CoC and spec throw owns my fps a lot more than summoner with any type of minions. At least with summoners it stays above 30fps MOST of the time. And thats with a 3770k @4.2ghz and a GTX460. Sadly I dont think any optimization is planned so I guess we'll just have to suck it up until PoE2 or something.

Summoner 'build' is the hidden gem in Wraeclast.
So much diversity and ways to customize from passive points to links, skills used and gear.

- magic find in every slot; HP/3 resists be damned (even better now with the new IIR shield unique)
- strong+max number of spectres
-- many combinations of spectres
- many zombies
- half # zombies trice as powerful
- 3curse, double totem, many auras
- elemental dmg / phys dmg focus (they buffed added dmg gems)
- with or without necromantic aegis keystone?
- HP build or ES build?
- best use of vitality aura and rejuv totem; how many auras can you squeeze?

And then is:
- animate guardian
- animate weapon
- conversion trap
- dominating blow (if you want to get into melee); but that's already overkill and a strain on limited number of active gems

The downisde:
- suck to start leveling as summoner; 100% screw up if first atempt
- some people might not want you in parties
- complexity
Edit:- ocasional strain/ feeling you will get a seizure

i actually care a pile of shit what holy kripp does... if the screen is full of shit i cant kill.. it makes me nervous and sick ;).. would be ok if i could kill all the fucking zombies too.. if its moving it must be killed is my motto

How many summoners really have hordes of minions running around? I have 6 zombie's and 2 burning miscreations and I run around and watch monsters burn, not that laggy at all.
