But they also gain massive survivability, damage and utility advantages. Oh yeah, nevermind maps.
Trading barely provides an advantage at all.

Grouping in maps to split map cost? Pretty huge advantage.

Grouping with a dedicated Culling MF, when you have zero IIQ/IIR yourself? Also pretty huge advantage.

Trading? People are not that stupid; items worth a Chaos to you tend to be traded for... around 1 Chaos. In a way it's an intrinsically PvP system, if you're buying then the seller keeps you from benefiting too much, if you're selling then the buyer keeps you from benefiting too much. This isn't Diablo 3 where trading means a better alternative to vendoring; if you try that you'll be frustrated spending hours in trade chat with no one willing to buy your crap, because only good items are worth trading. It's value for value in PoE.

I have no doubt that many of you are frustrated solo players. I understand, because there are some extreme disadvantages to solo play in this game. But scapegoating trading for huge advantages it doesn't provide is just wrong.

Furthermore, even if you were right, even if the main leagues had all these problems... the answer is not to run away like cowards. Stand and fight; if you think something is wrong with the game, suggest that it be fixed for all leagues. The Self-Found League isn't about fixing the game — it's about playing a different game on the same servers. Fuck that shit. We're all in the same boat here, so if you want something fixed, fix it for everyone.

I find it funny you decide for GGG that disallowing trade is not a good trade-off for upping currency drops.

You just keep repeating your same point, when you are in no position to advocate that point.

Because side leagues are not about balance.

Can't help but agree with that.

What if you can't fix it for everyone? You can address some issues sure, but parity? Your optimism is far greater than mine in that respect. Anything the solo, self found player can to do, the trading, partying player can do by definition. Unless you are going to actually be punishing partying and trading versus solo and not trading.

If I'm partying or trading, at any given point I can go solo when it's an advantage. The solo self found player will never be afforded the advantages I can gain though.

Edit: I think I have to say it again, apart from trying to address some issues in existing leagues, for a feasible SFL, something suited to it, something distinct, novel, complimentary.

Because it would have higher drop rates than the parent league? Leagues can only be made harder. You can't make one aspect harder, then make one easier. Its not supposed to be "balanced".

I guess to avoid any confusion I should have been more specific as to what was being made easier.

Do you honestly believe that a slight increase in drop rates would compensate for the ability to simply buy an upgrade?

I've pretty clearly stated what I meant. Both aspects would have to be harder for it to be a side league.

If it doesn't feed I don't give a crap what its mods are though. I just know that they wouldn't put the resources together to make a 4 month league like you guys want, especially if it doesn't feed a parent league.

I disagree. Even if it takes someone a few hours to buy something, being able to do so is a clear advantage.

I see, you don't want it so we can't have it.

So, you want to play self-found?

Most of us want a permanent league that doesn't feed back into the parent. The suggestion for a temporary league was simply put forward so the idea could be tested. Obviously, this too wouldn't feed back into a parent.

This is patently false. I can buy gear for a few chaos here and there that is far superior to the stuff I find or could possibly craft. For average players, trading is a huge advantage. For people at or near the top, the benefits of trading are marginal. If I cleared my whole stash, I would be hard pressed to buy a 6L anything.

Also the leagues cannot really be balanced very well. The disparity between people who live on POE and the people who play occasionally is not balanceable. So we prefer to play a slightly different game where crafting is achievable for us. I don't want orbs to rain down on me. I would like to believe that after six months of playing I would have a chance to regal/scour a few items in an attempt to craft them. That has not happened. I don't need success, but I would like the opportunity.

Good luck then. You have to realize that you are basically asking them to take their current game, and shove it to the side to cater a minority though.
