Why I'm quitting PoE and no longer recommending it to friends

Something really has to be done with fusings. Endgame really is about nothing but farming for fusing orbs so you can use the great gear you've found. Even 4 links take way too many fusings to get for how rare they are. Buying them is incredibly tedious because you have to buy everything one at a time and way too expensive.

It just wears you out and kills your drive to play the game when you can't even wear your upgrades because you can't socket them to use your skills.

so you're saying you'd rather get rid of the option (fusings) to upgrade that "great gear" you found.

Therefore making that "great gear" vendor trash because now you're stuck farming for a dropped 6L WITH great stats? Fusings are a bonus route to gear. If you're too focused on that bonus.. toss the gear and just farm linked gear that drops if it makes you happier.

Or do you mean you want the "endgame" to be easier in which case most complainers would stop playing anyways?

for me i think fusings should work with non-reducing L-tiers. Meaning.. you have a possibility to roll any number of links 0-6

BUT if you roll 0-2 OR 3-4 OR 5-6 you're guaranteed to STAY within that tier.

So if you have a 5L.. you still make the same rolls but if it hits 0-4L you DONT LOSE GEM SLOTS; it will stay as 5L.

If you have a 2L... and you roll 0-2L you stay at 2L but roll anything else and it gains gem slots.

i believe that this system would promote the feeling of "upgrading" as we can successively use our gear as it's upgraded through fusings.

Currently its like "ok use it as 5L"...farm fusings...roll fusings..."damn 2L - rage - QQ - remove armor".. harder time farming more fusings raging the whole time... gamble more.. rinse n repeat.

Nowhere in my post did I say any of what you mentioned. I just said something has to be done with the way fusings work. It just makes the game tiresome because for endgame you just log in and grind away hoping to get fusings. I think that raising the drop rate on them (and dear god add a buy in bulk option) and having some sort of system where the higher the quality of the item you're trying to link will give it a better chance at linking would make things so much less tedious.
I think I came up with a pretty good solution to the 6L issue. I posted it in depth here:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/50130

This would solve the issue and add a great diversification option to the game as well!

It is never a guarantee but it helps by averaging out the odds and making it less of a "crap shoot" and more of a systematic way players have the illusion of control...
I said it before and I will say it again --

RNG affecting ability layout will keep this game from long term success.

I could care less if its 2S or 5SL.

The stats of equipment and the rng associated with mixing and matching the stats are more than enough to keep people playing.

Requiring us to have 30 chromatics and 50 fusings so we can change one spell around on gloves or transfer from gloves to boots is a huge time sink.

Lets say you built an awesome map of uber ass kicking. You go in and get your ass kicked. What now? Quit the map? Maybe change some skills or even equipment around? Good luck since you need a mountain of orbs to overcome rng.

What? I just want to try out a different skill since they are immune to my primary skills!!! TOUGH!! SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP!!! That is what I hear from the so called hardcore members.

I don't hear the the other side, the min maxers speaking up about hey maybe drop the physical damage and go with fire. Or drop the armor and go all out evasion for that map. Why do I not hear these discussions?

Because RNG ASSOCIATED with ABILITY LAYOUT is a RIDICULOUS TIMESINK.

I like this game. It has potential. It also has everything in place to fall on its face.

Ideas are great on paper. Once you transfer ideas into a working reality you need to pay attention. Ideas are not always great in practice.

Remove the RNG with ability layout and you will stop seeing these posts. Otherwise GGG and all the mods will have their hands full trying to defend a broken mechanic.

@Tarmalen

The worst scenario I have ever encountered in my year+ of playing is one where I was forced to stop using two mod gems.

Well with a reply like that, I put you in the "likes to farm chances" camp.

Seems like you understand all too well that some characters will rely heavily on their abilities. Others will copy paste the safest cookie cutter layout with minimal modifications on abilities.

I for one tried to experiment with abilities and modifications only to finally give up since there is no reward when rng smashes your face in.

I want to win or lose on the battle field and NOT in town trying to fashion one item to support my ability.

I don't want to farm "chances" to MAYBE get that ability layout. I want to min max my abilities and rip face. I want to be able to switch my entire ability layout from one set to another without having to farm 500 chromatics so I can make my abilities function as normal on different item pieces.

I want to go from full out evasion to full out armor depending on the map. Maybe even mix and match. I want my creativity, or lack there of, to be the deciding point and not RNG.

I want to min/max, smash face, pillage and loot. I do not want to sit in town and pull a slot machine handle and pray to an RNG deity that I get the item to support an ability.

I didn't start playing PoE so I could hoard/farm orbs so I could carry my abilities from one piece of gear to the next.

Most of the players and developers are looking at this game as it stands currently. I am looking at it when people are in the 90-100 level. End game.

A Boss mob looks at you and you die. You want to beat the boss yet your current gear and ability layout make it impossible. You can spend a HUGE amount of orbs for a chance at getting a layout on gear that you "think" will beat that big mean boss. Nah....no reason too...better to skip. No fun burning a mountain of orbs for one boss only to find out the very next boss is immune to your new current layout.

Most people will begin to understand that the cost of playing revolves around a mountain of orbs. The mountain is only obtainable with large amounts of play time.

You want a small niche game, well I can tell you you have achieved success.

Over 10 years as an analyst, I am well aware of the life cycle. I am also aware of how hard headed developers can sometimes be.

I said it a few threads back Chris. Lose the rng with ability layout. Let the game grow with content and don't let rng provide you with a "cheap" imitation of content.
I don't think the OP means that the best stuff in the game shouldn't be rare or be hard to achieve. I think what he is saying though is that it shouldn't be boring as fuck to do the same shit over and over to get the stuff.

THIS really is why D3 killed it for me. I never expected to really get the best stuff but running the same crap over and over and over and over again is boring as sin. Having a ton of different maps with tons of different settings is a good thing and will only help to improve the longevity of the game.

So Kudos to the OP for trying to make the game better.

incorrect , the op quit specifically because he burned through 300 fusings and had nothing to show for it , its that sense that you wasted months of game play for nothing that caused him to leave .

I am seeing it more often now , people are hoarding fusings and jewelcraftings . Simply put its more economically viable to convert your fusings to gcp than it is to actually use them.

it should not cost 50 gcp in fusing to make a single 6l item . that is retarded, those who are lucky enough to get 6l in like 10 fusing are rare and are also the people boasting the 10k dps ground slam / heavy strike builds when everyone else is stuck at the 3k dps area because everything above 4l is a huge gamble.

Here's a tip.

Reroll the map. If a CI player's rolls a great map. Best map in the game, but it has blood magic. Guess what. I'm going to reroll it. In fact. I've done this on more than one occasion.

6L ARE A LUXURY. It really is as simple as that. NO ONE NEEDS A 6l. So you're upset you didn't get your 6l in a month? Did you gain xp? Because of said xp, did you gain some nodes? People seem to want everything now. Well, guess what. Maybe you should have farmed for more.

People sell jewellers and fusings all day long. Don't know why you think otherwise.

Again, reroll the map. It's that simple. Why would you try to run a map KNOWING your toon can't handle it?

5L is also a luxury. 4L is also a luxury. Why aren't you complaining that they haven't made 4Ls harder to get?

Rings are a luxury. Why aren't you complaining that all players get to wear rings from level 1? Shouldn't we have to EARN this luxury, by farming for an Orb of Ring wearing in high level zones?
