Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

3%/8% is the same as having no penalty at all.

What about players that don't want to play Hardcore but want some sort of challenge, like ACTUAL DEATH PENALTIES?

Even the current death penalty is too low!
I'm in an abusive relationship with life. It keeps beating the hell out of me and I'm too cowardly to leave it.

Im not sure how I feel about the penalty nerf. I think this would work better:

Keep penalty the same. First death has no penalty but starts a 15 or 30min timer. Any death during that timer is full penalty and starts the timer. Occassional desync or "oops" death on SC is ok, attrition is still very bad.

This I like

Something like this makes more sense to me also. Although, I would say more like you get a free death, or death with low penalty... but then a long timer starts til it resets. Maybe even a 24 hour reset? That still gives you a free death every 24 hours.

How can you guys say it's too low. You die once when you're really high level and it sucks balls, especially for people who only play an hour or two a day... you lose a ton of progress.

Edit: I'm not saying it should be removed or anything, but too low? come on...

First patch that sucks. Death penalties were already too low.

I vote for 50% for Cruel and 100% for Merciless.

PATCH. SUCKS. ARRRRGGHH.

LOL, troll! So many bad patches before, this is good but not quite right.

Yeah people saying "Just play hardcore" are completely missing the point.

Standard should be a great form of the the game, not a garbage dump. The vast majority of players will play in standard and I'd rather people take their builds and playstyles seriously, it just makes for a better game.

This change WILL result in massive zerging. 3% in cruel? That takes what, 3-4 minutes to get back? pffff

If you think this is going to change the integrity of softcore you obviously dont understand that softcore is already fucked by the fact dead hardcore characters transfer to softcore and RMTs/d2jsp exist. Also 3 minutes is slightly inaccurate ( you must have never been passed about level 40). At a high level its still going to be hours of regaining exp with the imposed merciless penalty

Suggestion for people who want to play "hardcore-like" on standard/anarchy:

Whenever you die once, go kill yourself again. There, 16% exp loss instead of 8%. If that's not enough you can always kill yourself again for a 24% exp penalty. You don't even need to waste a map portal, just go lunaris 2 or something.

I mean, that's what you really want isn't it?
I think its a pretty fair change. It's still gonna sting at higher levels but not so harsh when a death is not caused by poor user input.

As far as the 6 sockets go, I don't think it's even worth making a change. It gives allocated loot a random element. I like perm loot better but it's still nice to have some loot to race to.

Though makes no sense that 1 jewelers orb is allocated but 7 is not

In my opinion the death penalty for softcore should be increased, being able to keep your character and resurrect when you die is nice enough. Dieing should have meaning and consequence, extreme consequence. My opinion may be slightly biased because I play hardcore, but I think the masses will agree that the death penalty is either okay where it is or needs to be increased.
