The point is you stack enough lightning resist on your other gear to get back up to +75% and then have physical hit damage reduced by both your armor AND your lightning res. You'd end up taking about 30% less damage overall from physical hits if I'm understanding it correctly, which is certainly significant and could be very effective with the right build.

Go run a ~90% added lightning map and let me know how that works out for ya...

I understand it just fine thank you very much and I still see everything on that chest as a drawback besides the 1-30 lightning damage...

Lets say you get hit for 10k unmitigated physical damage. In normal circumstances, you take 10000 damage minus X, where X is the amount of damage mitigated for 10k damage by your armor.

Now, lets say you have this chest converting 4k of that physical damage to lightning damage, as well as 91% lightning resist (75% base cap+ 4% purity + 2% ele adaptation + 10% lightning flask). You only actually take 360 of that 4k converted damage as lightning damage. So, instead of taking 10k - X, you take 6k - Y (amount of armor mitigation) + 360, where Y is actually a LARGER percentage of 6k that X was of 10k (because of how armor works).

Yes, you have to build around the negative resists and shock to get to the above state. Which is working as intended.
