Your typical evasion or armor/evasion chest for end game will have around 1500 armor/evasion 90-109 life and have 1-3 resists between 20 and 45. This one has not only no resists at all but negative lightning resists less life and less armor/evasion...and on top of that makes you take physical damage as lightning.

All I can see are drawbacks for the only gain of 1-30 lightning damage, perhaps it's just me being a cynical bastard but somehow I doubt it.

End game rares, just as in practically every single Diablo game and every one of it mods, typically blatantly overwhelm uniques.

End game rares cost an absolute shitload.
There are boots out there far stronger than Rainbowstride that cost 70 ex or more, but what about the people that only have one? ):
(:
GGG know what they are doing. This new unique chest armor is the perfect recipe for someone to fork $1000 USD to make a unique that will counter the drawbacks and actually synergies well with it. They might as well added the text "Hate this chest, pay $1000" in the unique item.

When it comes to marketing, GGG is good at it. ;)

Spoiler
I am not serious

The flaw in your conspiracy theory is, of course, that I designed it ;)

Edit: spoilers FTW

Really not worth the downsides of -40 life -500 or armor/evasion and -60 LR for 1-30 lightning damage. =/

The lightning damage was suggested by the folks at GGG as a flavor addition. It was not even in the initial design I proposed, and is definitely not the "power-point" of the item.

You don't understand how mitigation works in POE, nothing to be ashamed of.

Might be something you want to fix if you want to comment on things and not look stupid though =P

Rares don't just overwhelm this one in my mind though...

That's fair enough but again, this chest is no Rainbowstride, not even close.
In game contact @MajorAsshole

Challenge T-Shirt: 4/6 | Full Challenge Totems: 21/27
Well I'm glad it's not a typical overpowered unique with no drawbacks.

I understand it just fine thank you very much and I still see everything on that chest as a drawback besides the 1-30 lightning damage...

Good, maybe I'll be able to get one and play with it then :D

The point is you stack enough lightning resist on your other gear to get back up to +75% and then have physical hit damage reduced by both your armor AND your lightning res. You'd end up taking about 30% less damage overall from physical hits if I'm understanding it correctly, which is certainly significant and could be very effective with the right build.
With a modest 4k hp a 5k kole smash crit would only hit an 80% lightning res for 400 lightning damage after resistances, shocking the player for 2.7ish seconds and taking off 2000! (And nullifying 1600 of that damage) damage out of the physical portion, letting your armor soak way way more. After everything it might cut the damage of the smash in half in the long run.

So I ask you.... would you rather be dead or be shocked?
