Tyr's **0.11.1** Pure Elemental Bow Spec

Hey Tyranthal,

First off, thanks for laying out the groundwork for a streamlined Ele-Bow Shadow. I'm fairly new to PoE and have been doing some reading so I have a few questions about this style of Shadow. I've been looking to make a fun, bow using character and this one was the first one to pique my interest. I've been debating making an ele-bow character with either a ranger, templar or shadow. It's tough to really know which one is ideal.

1) In your opinion, how does this Elemental Bow Shadow compare to an Elemental Bow Ranger or a Lightning Arrow Templar? It seems that we don't really use much of the starting position of the Shadow.

2) Based on your experience, how does this compare to a pure physical dmg Bow ranger?

3) At what level does the +Mana on Kill become essential? So far, I have yet to run into mana trouble using 2 auras (but I'm only lvl 20). Do you feel like Soul Siphon is a must have asap or can I branch off and grab Arcing Blows first?

Once again, your efforts are appreciated! Thanks!

1. Shadow yields the highest potential for ranged dps thanks to arcing blows and all the crit mods. Somebody will likely argue with me on this. Get 7k+ on Lightning arrow x2 then we can argue :) When you reach the end of the build in the Templar tree it pays off. Technically you can make the exact same build 100% with a Templar & very close with a Witch. Its designed to be flexible that way. You will look cooler as a shadow and not have old sweaty man ass to look at. The choice is yours.

You cannot see the elemental dps now because of a few factors...

-Nobody is far enough along to realize the holycrapdps from leveled and max quality support gems like Culling Strike + WED + Crit Chance & how they modify one another.

--Nobody will have the +elemental gear to take advantage of all the late elemental passives

---The shadow variety of this build is truly unleased at higher level. You have to stick with it & not fuck up the tree too bad.

There is more risk involved. It is harder. This might better serve people as a second character.

2. Ive never played a pure phys bow ranger. Sorry! (it just looks boring)

3. Immediately. Get it out of the way early. Its like in most rpgs...take the boring passives early so you can focus on the cool stuff later.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am convinced. You have yourself another Elemental Bow Shadow Follower! Will keep an eye on the developments of this build.
Around level 34 at this point, having a blast with this build of yours. Great responses in this thread too.

What would you recommend in regards to levelling auras?

Oh, and how do you choose between Ice Shot and Lightning Arrow in a given situation?

I was just wondering I am about to start using this build and I was curious as to what auras you use exactly? Just the elemental damage auras? Or do you have something like grace mixed in there as well?
Heh thx for the feedback.

As for Auras..

#1 Wrath. Level it a few times only till you get Reduced Mana. Or, Level Wrath and don't level Anger as much. I got Anger first so, yeah.

#2 Anger. Low cost, decent dps.

#3 Hatred. High cost, great for modifying any +cold dmg. Chilled is good. Its a free CC. You will struggle to adapt Hatred with another Aura early without reduced mana supports.

#4. Discipline. High cost. It got nerfed & I havent hit a wall that is requiring me to think defensively enough to use it. Definitely needs a reduced mana.

IIRC, in CB, 700+ mana was plenty to run all 4. You can be safer & take more mana % nodes, thats your call. The entry witch area is good for this. I always modify what Im doing as I go & will always take the riskier, more dps path over mana. The more things you 1 shot the more mana return on each kill. Now that I think of it, if you are new & think like this calamity might ensue. Play it safe & respec later if you are struggling.

I'm curious about aura choice too, especially early in the build such as 20s & 30s.
Before you spark your torches and grab your pitchforks hear me out. Im leveling an elemental bow marauder. Why? Because my shadow had Kaoms Heart a few times in CB. It broke the game. Even in pvp just messing around my friends (equally geared) would struggle to bring my ele bow shadow down with almost 4k hp.

How?? I realized that defense was hogwash and all you truly needed was ALOT of hp, regen & max resists. Some Armor is good. Some ES is very good. Im not making this thread about this build, but, this build is the byproduct of this thread. Its drifting into a universal concept territory.

Level 45 now. This is a vid of a Chamber of Sins bosskill on cruel. http://twitch.tv/tyranthal/c/1884395

I waited until OB & have rolled a Marauder to stack as much HP as possible while keeping to the elemental nodes...keeping to everything ive been rambling about the last six months. Its flexible just like LA Templar. Ive seen another build sorta similar but they went all into Iron Grip phys dmg etc etc. I'll roll a third shadow after I make this proof of concept.

This elemental concept goes back to about a year ago, when I realized melee was fun but waaaaaay too much button mashing to stay alive. I switched to Lightning Strike. Another thread with 14k views and I retired the Crit Dagger + Shield Charge Lightning Strike shadow. Why? Cause taking all the elemental gear accumulated and using a bow instead of a dagger/shield was much more efficient. You need even less defense & get higher return with more flexibility.

I'll be watching your Marauder build as well. I just can't stand the look of Marauders which is why I prefer Shadow/Ranger/Witch. I notice in your new Marauder build that you don't have Soul Siphon yet. How's that working out? Maybe I should be posting this reply in your other thread actually.. :p
IGN: skizzy
Hey Tyr,

Love the build and been following it religously, my ice shot does the majority of my damage at level 42.

I saw on page 2 of this string that you stated "Elemental Equilibrium is overkill at this point. Im taking it away for now."

Do you think that having Elemental Equilibrium would still be overkill?
