[1.2.0] Dual Claws Are Cool

Okay, so I guess I'm a bit of a newbie at this. I just went ahead and started playing without really reading up. But you know, I figured that it would probably turn out okay, and overall it hasn't been bad actually. Though I am beginning to have issues in some specific situations with my build, and I'm hoping some people might be able to offer me some advice.

First off, I didn't realise that one handed and dual wielding bonuses stacked. I figured that one handed bonuses wouldn't apply if dual wielding. From what I've read I'm mistaken about that, but I guess that's not really my main worry at the moment anyway. My main worry is survivability.

Here's my current build at level 70:

The main way this has been working for me is with spectral throw, lesser multiple projectiles, increased critical strike chance, and power charge on critical. I currently max out on 5 crit charges and with these claws:

I start at about 49% chance and top out at around 69% chance to crit. The trick is that because I'm running hatred the high crit chance means that spectral throw can often effectively freeze large groups of monsters into statues. If I end up getting surrounded I can just whirling blades out and start spectral throwing from a new location.

I've been doing a few runs on level 67 maps, and if I'm careful I can get through them without dying, but low resistances and not quite high enough evasion are currently problems for me. I'm sure those can be remedied by finding items though. The major issue I have is that occasionally a rare monster, and often unique bosses, particularly hillock, will one shot me. As long as I don't get one shotted I don't even need to use flasks that much, the life steal on the claws is high enough that I'm more or less sweet as. But the one shot problem remaains. I'm wondering how I can modify this to put in some survivability. Clearly my build can probably use some tweaking. At the moment I've got about 15 passive re-spec points that I can spend if needs be. I was wondering if it might be smart to respec into something like this:

Here the idea is to spec out of acrobatics / spell dodge and into ghost reaver. Hopefully having the energy shield on top of my life would be enough to allow me to survive the likes of Hillock's attempts to one shot me. The main issue I'm facing is that it seems quite likely to be expensive to switch out to an entirely new EVA/ES set of gear. I'm about ready to buy my first 5 link chest piece, but I really don't know which direction to go in at the moment. Do I re-spec into EVA/ES and take ghost reaver? Or stay with pure EVA? Any advice would be super helpful! Cheers!

Your tree really needs more health nodes.
I suggest not investing so much in critc.. Its more of a late game strategy but yes more health. You will probably have to go for either Iron reflex or acrobatic or CI Shadow is just too weak without one of these key passive nodes.

If I was going to spec into hybrid EVA/ES is there anything I should know about it before I do?

Yeah, don't do it. Just don't. A bigger HP pool will resolve your one-hit issue without going to the bother of EV/ES.

Found out that after 1.0.2, Viper Strike + Multistrike + Melee Splash is decent clear for a 3L. Thoughts? A RRG Link on my claws are rather hard tho >_>

Decent clear at what level?

Hello fellow Clawusers!

I´ve been meaning to write a post here for quite some time, but Ive been busy playing ;)

I´ve been playing PoE since the release on Steam and have currently 400ish hours played on my character, hes atm lvl 87 and I´m currently doing lvl 73 maps with ease, hoping to get a decent pool of lvl 74 maps for further progress.

For me, using Blood Magic with my attack (dual strike) is doing wonders, I had alot of problems with mana earlier, especially during longer fights, even though I had 5% of the damage done returned as mana, aswell as some "increased mana regen" nodes.

Changing to Blood Magic made it possible for me to save up atleast 6 Passive Skill Points, aswell as being able to use 2 Auras (usually Hatred and Grace) without any hassle, Blood Magic is also really nice when getting Vaal Pact, which I did instead of getting the Bloodseeker claw, mainly because I Think it lack some dps, even though it´s probobly fully viable :P

The two most important things when I geared my character was getting enough resistances, I have 75% ress against Everything except for Lightning which I only have 70%, the other thing is to have atleast "47% Evasion" fully buffed so that I gain as much as I can from Ondars Guile, which is an awesome skill, making me almost immune to ranged attacks.

I´m also using the Eye of Chayula, simply because I really hate stuns, especially Stuns together with Desynch, it has ruined atleast 1 keyboard and 1 mouse for me ;) I probobly could get Alphas Howl instead of my current Helm aswell but I´m fine with getting rid of "Frozen" with my flasks for now.

When it comes to my Skill Gems, I´m using a lvl 1 Cast on Damage Taken, don´t know if its optimal, but it is better than using the lvl 20 version of the gem, using it at lvl 1 gives me pretty much a constant buff to 1215 armor, reducing damage taken with 12%, I could probobly tweak it up a bit but I don´t like to gamble with 20q gems :)

I´ve chosen to use a bit of armor/ eva gear, simply because I use alot of red skill gems, if I can avoid using thousands of Chromatic orbs on my gear, then that´s what I´m gonna do, fusing a 6 linked armor is enough of trouble, I don´t like the chances of getting an evasion chest with atleast 4 red slots..

Gear

When it comes to my skill tree, which is almost an identical copy of the Ops version of it, I would love to get rid of the Intelligence nodes, but I cant at the moment because it´s required while using Claws, my main goal has been to get as many of the "bigger" nodes to a lesser price than usual, not investing any Points at the bigger Groups of nodes.

The 8% increased mana node to the right of "Master of Arena" isnt really good for me, but it´s either that node or Golem Blood down South, which also doesnt benefit me at all unfortunatly.

Anyways, thanks alot to OP for the guide and the tips, it has helped me alot for one!

Early Cruel. Was just trying around some stuff. WIth multistrike + splash + I could 1 shot everything with the DoT, will try it again in merc, getting past A3C atm on this toon.

EDIT: Oh and if I wanted to run IR instead of evasion, would it be good? Cause I personally prefer not getting hit too hard than have to worry about if it's going to 1 hit me or not. xD

Most definitely viable to run IR; good or not depends on personal choice. I was just forcibly reminded of exactly how amazing IR really is yesterday, testing a bow tank build (don't ask).

Thanks for the detailed post Rittz79, mind if I copy (quote) your testimonial into the second post as an example of someone who decided to go VP? It's definitely a lot cooler now that it's in a position to actually be taken.

I don't mean to sound like a complete noob, but what are the Pros and Cons of using Vaal Pact?

The pros are instant life leech!! This is it. Just the way it is, great!!

The cons are:

runinng blood rage needs chaos resists! If you havent got any, congratulations, running around with a heart disease! Means, you havent got any lifeflasks or liferegeneration! This might be awfull!! VP demands superb gear!! If u lack on that, wait until you are geared and do it again!

besides: BS is so cool dude!!
Can you guys tell me how the hell to handle bosses? Even with 60 regen per hit, 2 hits/twice a second + flasks, bosses like Dominus destroy me ( and a few big crowds )

Died earlier to dominus and restarting atm. Lost so much good gear.

All resistances almost maxed.

Ehh? Dominus has a lot more to do with knowing the strategy of the fight than anything else. It's like you wouldn't facetank Vaal smash or triple lazer anyway, regardless of your leech. Spell block does help a great deal against Dom though.
