Petrov's Elemental Bow Ranger Build(s) (0.10)
Have you had a chance yet to test out Ice Shot and how it would work in an Ele build as opposed to LA?

" nope, not yet sadly, no ice shot gem as ive been stuffing around with my witch for a bit! Petrov. |

" I'm here to send some love! :) Even as a newbie to the game I can appreciate the thought that went into your build. Thanks for sharing it! P.S Have you any thoughts on the %projectile damage nodes that are right in the centre of the tree? The %crit on the way there are a bit of a waste. However it seems like the best dps increase that could be attained when you eventually get to lvl 80. Last edited by ivkoto77777#0822 on Sep 12, 2012, 9:13:31 PM

" Hi ivkoto, thanks very much! Assuming one doesn't just want to continue to beef up one's life nodes, beyond level 74 I'd be getting some combination of i) the 24% in easy-to-reach IAS nodes (see OP for details), ii) the projectile damage cluster in the centre of the map, iii) the IAS/projectile dmg cluster at the south east of the duelist starting spot just beyond where I've current stopped or iv) heading up north for the plethora of tasty eva, project dmg, ias, else dmg nodes, arcing blows, east of the shadow starting zones (which youd certainly snap up if you decided to go for an ES-leech/ CI bow ranger build). Slightly updated build in OP grabbing a few more % EVA high end nodes and ditching Vaal Pact (SAD_Caitlyn's tip - I agree).
I've also linked as a post-script to a slightly extended version of the CI elemental bow ranger build MegaTranny posted about as I think this is a really interesting alternative using CI (etc). Petrov. Last edited by mrpetrov#7089 on Sep 15, 2012, 2:15:34 PM

I have a quick question on your skill gems. How are You able to use Elemental weakness? Especially at level 18?
|
|
When you get a 6L chest piece would you consider putting in a faster projectiles support gem or is there a better choice as a last support?

Waffle - a very good question - I can use EE because my gear has about +90 to Intelligence mods on it. I should update the OP so that's clear. Otherwise you'd have to invest in some +30 int node passives.
Ivkoto, if I had 6L gear (which I don't), and I didn't want to run IIQ/IIR, then probably the three obvious choices would be faster projectiles (arrows are fast anyway and for PvM play projectile speed isn't so important, although the proj damage is nice of course), added lightning damage or added chaos damage (with +qual if possible). Of those three, I haven't tested, but I suspect a levelled +qual added chaos gem would give you the most bang for buck (and with blood rage and life leech you can probably afford the life cost of the LA still). Hope this helps, Petrov. |

Mrpetrov,
I went another way with my Ranger, THE LIFE PATH, I died level 51 HC but that was my fault. died in the Kraytin fight in Merciless, even with Temporal Chaind with increase duration, a shit tons of life, 3,5k+ evasion with Grace and she managed to give 500+ damage each attack on me, and some devastating crits, I did not TP to rethink my strategy in time, cause I was doing great before fighting her even with the PA nerfs( overconfidence sucks on HC ). My DPS was really not great but my survivability was....in fact I am rerolling one with the same specs, using a buid suggested by Zyx, I would like to know, did you die a lot with your build ? Do you think your high DPS build would work on Hardcore mode?? if so I might consider your build. By the way I was using : Lesser Multiple Projectiles + Poison Arrow + Pierce Elemental Hit + Mana leech + Faster Attacks Temporal Chains + Phase Run + Increase Duration Now I am implementing Decoy Totem for obvious reasons. Thanks very much! |

Originally inspired by the guide of Mr Petrov I took some other decisions to rebuild my passives after patch 0.9.12. In general I tend more to the right side of the passives tree, I dont need Blood Magic and Unwavering Stance on the left side, conventional Mana works well for me in this build and I had no problems with stunning so far. You also have not the problem (when leveling) to decide when you have "enough" survivability that you can use BM.
Important nodes: - Iron Reflexes - Reflexes (+30% evasion) - Leather and Steel (+24& for both) - Thick skin (+18% life) - Fury Bolts, Perfect Aim, Acceleration (+12% +15% Projectile Damage) - Acceleration (+12% Attack Speed) - Fitness (+20 Strength, +10% life) - Arcing blows (+30% lightning damage) - Fitness (+4% Attack Speed, +30 Dex) Rest is attack speed, life nodes and weapon elemental damage. My gear is not high end but also not so bad, I think you can trade better items for total <10 exalted. So atm I have in the end >10k armor with grace, 3 auras that I can run (Wrath [gives additional lightning!] and Grace are most important, currently experimenting with Vitality instead of Anger) and around 2k life. I use 3 hybrid flasks, that works good enough for me [Iron Skin variant]), 1 Granite (for tanking) and 1 Diamond flask for boss mode / crit damage. Damage with Lightning Arrow starts at 6,6k with the most defensive build [High Eva Boots, Wrath aura, Grace, Vitality] up to 8,3k [Wrath, Anger, Grace] with Wrath of Destruction (post-patch, the weaker variant with 1-120 lightning damage) currently. Crit damage varies from 19k unbuffed to 28k with Wake boots. With pre-patch Wake boots or quality gems >30k is no problem. I use a 5L (not very high end) chest with the combination (G) LA [level5] + (G) Faster Attacks + (G) Mana Leech + (R) Weapon Elemental Damage + (B) Increased Crit Damage It is possible to run 3 auras with Reduced Mana and still spam LAs and cast a totem from time to time. With a 6L I would add Increased Crit Chance prob ... The build is optimized to give good playing experience, I dont like to kite or pressing too many buttons for anything, it all should work comfortable. Who wants to level up a ranger and needs items, PM me, I collect many things in my stash and can help perhaps [bow, quiver, belt, amy, rings]. Here is my build
