Thanks for the update! Much appreciated. I think Oak gives +40 life now though, not +45. Bah, I ended up taking the skill point. :(
Don't worry!:) The difference between 40 base life and an 8% life node is marginal once you have a lot of life (I think about 3k IIRC). Really not a big deal, you'll never notice the difference.

I want to ask if you keep any gems at a certain level, because before you were saying lightning arrow level 1 now to max it. Is there any other gems that you keep at a certain level? thx

I'm dyin here. Do I start over and go for new build? Do I use respec points and convert? Do I just keep going with old beta build? I would restart in a heartbeat except I dont have spare gems and the important ones are already leveled up. It would be a bit of a struggle for the first 45 levels.
Has anyone here experienced both the old beta version and new tanky shock spec? Im dying to know if the new is much better or if i should continue on with the old build.

I think he said lvl 1 -5 max. Meaning its not worth it to go above lvl 5 unless you can support the extra mana/life costs.

Mr Petrov,
I started leveling a ranger following your close beta build yesterday. I have reached level 45 and now I see you have updated your build due to Diamond Flasks being removed. I figured out that I can use all my respec points and 8 orbs of regret to get to your new tanky build. My question to you is this. Is the differnce between the old beta build and the new tanky version worth my respec points? Or is the beta build very close dps wise even without the diamond flasks?
I also would like to know if multiple projectiles works the way I think it does, in that it will out perform lightning pen when there are 2 or more mobs close enough to each other. Say for example there are 2 zombies right next to each other and you fire off a LA with LMP. Each zombie gets hit with a LA. Does each zombie also take the aoe dmg from the other zombies LA hit? Is this how it works?
Thanks a ton for you guide, it really helped me figure this game out. I just started playing a few days before open beta.
Look forward to hearing from you.
The real difference between the old beta build (choice 4) and the new ones (choices 1-3) are twofold:
1. The new ones rely on Resolute Technique, the old ones relied on Dexterity for chance to hit
2. The new ones cannot crit (or use diamond flasks), but they hit all the time. The old one had the ability to do massive "spike" damage when using diamond flasks which was great, for example, for boss killing or a "panic button".
Now, with no diamonds currently in the game, the old build has to rely just on regular crit chance to crit. Crit chance for bows is a low base, so it's hard to build a lot of crit chance in the skill tree to get your actual crit chance much above 20%. To make a crit bow build with that sort of 20+% crit chance, you have to sacrifice some base dps and probably HP nodes.
More importantly, you'll have to gear towards crit chance and crit multi damage. So you'll end up saving up for Maligaro's gloves, high crit damage quivers and bows, etc. That's fine, but it also reduces flexibility on gear (and yoour gear will be more expensive to trade for), because you still need flat ele damage, resists, etc etc on your gear too.
Remember, GGG have never suggested diamond flasks are going away for good - they'll be back soon enough is my guess (and that's purely a guess!).

Thanks for getting back to me. I really do appreciate your time and expertise on this. I know this is a silly question. But if you were me (lvl 45 ranger currently following old beta build) would you A) restart B) use the 18 quest respec points + some orbs to convert to new build, or C) continue with old beta version.
I only ask because you have more understanding of endgame and the game in general and I dont want to make a poor choice.
Much love for the help man. You are a rarity.
edit: also one thing to make note of, I do not have spare gems. I would be using only gems I get from quests/find if I were to restart, until I got back to lvl 45.

but after he updated he says to max lightning arrow now at the bottom of the update?

Ah yes I see that now. It appears I will have to watch his updates more closely.
