Path of Exile 0.11.0

Going to wait for the specifics on the changes to monster damage and the necessity of life nodes before I get too hyped. Would have preferred they reduced the number of nodes per cluster but upped the percentages on them, giving a fairer balance between life and other potential offensive nodes.

Meh. New leagues seem OK, nothing special, challenges seems like a waste of development time, they don't reward us at all either, and no a "sense of accomplishment" is not a reward, it would of been better to develop a full achievement system with rewards for some things than just release this as a "test". And by rewards I mean cosmetic things, things on the same level as micro-transactions but only obtainable by completing that achievement. The new base items cool, the fact they only drop in special leagues that most people won't care about, not cool. The re-balance of HP and monster damage is a waste of time, all you have done is lower the numbers, you have not made it any easier or harder than it currently is (And please, do not fucking nerf things again for the casual moronic plague, that isn't what this game is and you have said that since day 1, it's not D3). The new currency orb seems cool I guess, just makes it easier to get good items though, again, not really needed. And the health bars are cool.

Also those challenges are fucking terrible. Reach 60 in every class? Use 1 of each map in the device? Receive 34 specific items from vendor recipes? Own a specific set of uniques?

Honestly, those challenges are absolutely fucking TERRIBLE. Abysmal even, what a joke. They are leagues because people want to compete to be #1, not level 1 of every fucking class to 60. And then you want people to use one of every map, how do you expect most people to even get the higher tier maps? How do you expect that to happen when at the same time they have to level one of every fucking class? Then there is the uniques, nobody is going to fucking trade them when they want them themselves, you would have to be incredibly lucky to find them yourself.

I'm not even going to bother playing with the challenges, the only reason to play these is the items that only drop in a specific league, which btw is a bad idea too.

Read at http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/400398 why nerfing nodes means you need less life nodes in your build to be efficient.

Death in Hardcore goes to Standard.
Death in Onslaught goes to Standard.

This is dumb, why would you punish hardcore players who want to play Anarchy by forcing them to move to SC after the league ends... Very discouring that you have to play onslaught or no league as hardcore to play in a new league. And we wanted a pvp hc league, pref with dropping of all items like in the races. I personally have no interest in onslaught league, most who found the game to easy are using cookie cutter builds and play 24/7. The Anarchy league sounded like a fun change but if i cant keep my items after its a waste of time so it looks like more farming in normal hc for me.

It makes the game easier for newbies, doesn't "help" them. There's also a downside to it, as you'll quickly find the rares you're picking up are worthless where-as they were decent a month ago. Reminds you of another game?

This is correct. Rares you find will lose their "awe" factor and consequently their value as well. Things will deflate in value, but this also means that newbies will often not be able to afford stuff because the "decent" things they find now won't sell or will sell for less (which also implies that they can craft less as well. Meanwhile, my stashes upon stashes of top tier ilvl gear will sell for inflated values as everyone wants to get their hands on the best materials, exacerbating the problem.

Believe me when I say that newbies often times get good deals on things they find because its exalt-worthy and top players will pay them a good sum to get their hands on it and exalt it. If the Eternal Orb exists, top players need not purchase things beyond the first, i.e: no sale for players in the lower stratas of the economy.

It has big ramifications, some of which I'm not too pleased about. This is coming from a top 20 player who hasn't finished gearing so I think I'm adequately qualified to speak on this.
So, with the melee fixes, will making PURE PHYSICAL melee characters be truly viable now?

Monsters do less damage, but you'll also have less hp to take that damage.

How does this reduce the need for hp nodes?
The way I see it, you need less hp, but to achieve that hp you need the same amount of nodes. this doesn't seem to solve anything, because overall, you're going to have to spend an equal amount of points on hp nodes than before, leaving little to no points for dmg nodes.

Read http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/400398, it describes the maths.

This patch looks awesome, I'll definitely be coming back to play it.

I don't really like some of the challenges though, they seem to rely heavily on playing a lot, rather than being about actual difficulty to achieve. (I'm looking at using every map, 90 specific uniques, allocating all the notables/keystones, and the 34 vendor recipes)

Some ideas for challenges that I think are less reliant on playing for long amounts of time and more reliant on difficulty of achieving:

-Defeat Merciless Piety solo in Under 3 Minutes (not sure if 3 minutes is challenging, I've never timed myself)
-Defeat Merciless Vaal without getting hit by Vaal's laser, falling rocks, or Vaal's slam attack.
-Defeat Normal Merveil (on all players in the group's first encounter with her) without returning to town and without using any potions.
-Clear a map with 2 of the following debuffs: <list of map debuffs that really suck>
-Clear normal difficulty solo before reaching level 26. (Joining a party at any point fails this challenge)
-Clear 15 maps (that are within 5 levels of all players in the map) without identifying them.

These challenges would be difficult, and don't require nearly the time investment of the other 3. Not sure what others think about this, that was just my thoughts on the challenges, but I look forward to playing this new patch!

You've saved up the 1500 or so Orbs of Fusing to potentially six-link an item that you currently use, but are worried that if you use all the orbs you might end up with less sockets than you started with, rendering your character unusable. If you use an Eternal Orb on it, you're able to lock in your current sockets and restore them if the fusing operation is unsuccessful.

this is a rather confusing example.

I think you mean to say, 'lock in your current linkings and restore them if the fusing operation is unsuccessful'

OR it should say Jeweler Orbs. which makes more sense in terms of locking in the number of sockets and restoring them if you end up getting less sockets than you started.

somehow he's mixing up the two. orbs of fusing and jewelers orb.

(Chris: do I get a prize for catching this mistake?)

Wow I guess you guys weren't slacking all month, onslaught is going to be fuckin awesome and everything else looks great too!

Well, now for my blunt 2cents :)

I'm liking the new leagues, anarchy especially, of which I'll most likely try out.

I'm liking the new balancing concepts that Chris laid forth.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see if things will be truly balanced. There must be some serious rebalancing going on as GGG is offering yet another "One-off Full Passive Reset."

Other things were an obvious capitulation to the whiners complaining:

1) The loot revamp/rework from being ninja'd by other players

2) “We've reduced all monster damage”

I will say though, I AM really hoping that melee becomes viable again like it was in the early times of closed beta.

Apart from that, everything else looks very exciting to be sure.

The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow
in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the
same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji?
