Item Allocation Specifics

They didnt change the old system at all. You can still play that!

Indeed, but only with people who also ninja.

It's hilarious.
What we are seeing is butthurt plastics, pissed that their ratio of incoming ninjad loot to loot ninjad from them has just taken a turn against them.

Albeit a fair turn, but that doesn't matter to a plastic, fair is not what is wanted. So, we are seeing the tears thinly veiled as 'casuals got their way' when really it's a cry from a pretentious HC gamer that they didn't get their way and will now have to step up and compete with the type that they (unconvincingly) claim to be.

Casually casual.

THIS? .. THIS is the super amazing mysterious update! are you fking serious?

just ... wow.... unbelievable.. all this hype over loot options... and this is 2nd stage of beta? having loot options? ... man thats just sad.

really dissapointed.

5 minutes seems like a long time, especially if someone doesn't realise that an item has dropped for them. Can this also be distance-based? So if they go more than ~3-4 screens away, it deallocates?

FFA also disadvantages ranged classes, though it's great for private groups.

If im not mistaken you wont get an item allocated to you at all if you are 3 to 4 screens away.
It allocates (or did so before) to a random nearby player.

Knac, In response to your above post, you ignore that there are lazy/bad people out there that feel that they can simply join a group and wait for their loot to drop, instead of contributing to actually killing mobs. One of the draws of FFA/Timer is that the players are forced to be at the very least nearby + aware, which ups the chances of them actually clicking some of their attack buttons and being useful.

You don't get extra XP NEITHER extra loot (and loot can't be allocated to you) if you are not close anyway, do you realize this was changed some patches ago? This is not changed by this. In fact I doubt GGG would be making this change at all if that wasn't that way.

Free For All allocation is great. It's great fun, it gives a little bit risk to playing, I love it. For me there is no need for other type of allocation.
thank you for this change now iam coming back to PoE !

Can you kindly quote the part where GGG said this is the mysterious update?

It's no secret that GGG has been contemplating about offering different item allocation modes. This was expected.

this is bad chris. you are pussying out on this one. teenagers cry because they cant loot fast enough on maps the 6sockets so you just give into them. thats bad. i really had respect for ggg but the past few months its down the hill. keep this up and you will start losing players and the only people that will stay will be A) the most hardcore that are bored out of median xl and play this because there is no other game to play B) children that like to play games like diablo3 where the devs make everything to make the game as casual as possible

this was supposed to be a game for hardcore players, not for kids. with this changes to loot, you made this game for kids.

i dont remember many children playing d2, just because of the loot system. and that was a good thing.

May I ask how does this affects you?

The critics seems to be salty about the fact that other people get what they want despite the fact that it has no bearing on his own experience.
It all sounds great except the rare/magic/unique maps not be allocated to the maker. That part makes no sense.
If i run a map of a friend i dont want to loot his map, XP + chance to have loot and the currencie i save, as i dont roll/host my own map is already EXTREMLY HUGE. I dont need to have a chance to loot a map from his map.
