It's important to us that Path of Exile has a cut-throat feel where players are not only competing against monsters, but also their fellow players.

Why was this so important?

The only 'option' you need to add is maps to maker and use d3's instanced loot system. Maybe we could have our own FFA only league then? the fastest ninjas can battle it out for the last exalted orb in existence! no thanks.

What use is loot tension if its optional? just flush it already.

options are bad remember?
yay, it's so funny watching the ffa-lovers getting sour and bitter ... they even got back their old brainwashed cultist arguments trying to make themselves feel better about this new turn in the game development.
show indeed

Yea congrats on that! You got GGG to abandon their core design.

I'm sure has hell glad I didn't spend any more then $50 supporting a d3 clone. Pfff

core design? give me a break.

and btw this is a BETA. game is entirely different then it was a year ago and the upcoming loot change hasnt even happened yet.

stop trying to play that card.
Who is upset over the change?

I am like the devs at GGG, I like loot tension. So, my games will be loot on the new version of the timer and sometimes FFA for shitzengiggles.

Will I end up in the occasional instanced loot group? Yea likely, but I will live.

I just think they are doing it wrong.

I expect most everyone will play 'no tension mode', certainly in public games anyway. Not needing to trust strangers is a big perk - that and not having to loot in the middle of fighting makes it much safer - great for HC.

I don't think that loot tension works if you can just opt-out. I think adding options is a bad idea, they should just copy d3 loot method and go all in. Adding options that add nothing to the game is a waste of resources IMO. - just add map to maker as a box or something.
Don't understand the problem. People have claimed forever now that FFA is more fun and you can get more loot with it.

Now all of the sudden there will be an option and those people are backtracking or what?

If you like it then play it! What does it matter if other players don't like it and don't play it??

Lol, free loot or hassle over loot. Free loot it is!

Just like single player. Now the game actually makes sense.

Now please add free full respecs otherwise you might loose customers as well.

The devs are apparently smart enough to see a difference between playstyle and a core design.

I'll try an analogy:

What if there was a button on your character sheet you could push that would make you a HC character? if you die with it on your character is deleted, but you can still play with everyone else who keeps their button off and just get sent to town when they died.

Why would this arrangement not work?

For one, they could just turn it on or off when it suited them. I love HC but I would not use this if it were the choice. I like FFA loot style games too but I will turn that shit off if it benefits me - it will save me from having to maintain a friends list anyhow. Besides, all open public games will use this option so there wont be a choice. (I could be worng on that, but it would be a slim minority of masochist after a short while)

Not only will I take the easiest and safest way so will just about everyone else. Fun is one thing, but my character not dying comes first.

So I know you like the loot system of D3, help me convince GGG to just use it. It will clear up the whole ground clutter issue and save them time having to modify all the menus for options. I don't think there is any good arguments left against it.

I sure don't have any.

That would be dumb for obvious reasons.

The point is if you can get more loot and you like playing like that how does it benefit you to not play it?

Why would they be masochists if they want to play it? There's people who think its a faster, easier way to play and people who enjoy the competition so I don't see why there is something wrong with them for enjoying it.

I'm glad a choice is coming, no one should have to risk dieing just to get loot. However I'm sure there are those players who never die from playing FFA.

Having the choice is the way to make the most players happy at this point. Having instanced loot only would certainly tick off a portion of the playerbase.
