Secondly, what's wrong with all us "anti-ffa" loot protesters just playing in games that don't have FFA loot? What's the harm to you, the would-be pro-FFA sort? How is your gaming experience lessened?
I'm guessing it boils down to two primary reasons:
1. Developer white-knighting.
2. The realization that introducing instanced loot would make public FFA-loot games only a slightly more common occurrence than Elvis riding a unicorn, thereby depriving them of their ninja-looting fix.
I'm sorry if this comes off as provocative, but it's my honest guess.
Its funny - I love these Devs. Havent played a quality game this good, well, since D2.
That said, i do think they are damaging their own long term goals of drawing in the crowds. Its very evident all across the boards that alot of players are unhappy with this system, and they wont last as long as im sure GGG would like them to.
GGG - Why you no?

Admittedly, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you elaborate?

Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that. Contrary to that obnoxious guy who likes to just go around labeling everybody, there is quite a bit of grey territory between the RED and GREEN goalposts. Heck, my RL friends and I used to enjoy a bit of cut-throatery now and then in Diablo 1. Every man for himself!
Again, it's not FFA loot that many of us object to, conceptually. It's being compelled to experience it in order to be able to play together that we dislike.

Hey, provocative is my middle name!

I love watching Xaxyx make people look like infants. *sips coffee*
I could refresh this page all day.
SMRD still exists in the ladder, for what it's worth.
Really?!?
Bullying other members with name calling, not actual making ANY points or advancing this thread in any shape or form, starting some sort of red vs green thing (like politics or race...), talking about the devs by saying, ". I wouldn't trust these guys with a copy of Notepad.exe."
Yeah, great guy...... Glad he's' in this community. What a visionary.
Wow, almost missed this.
No, he's not bullying, he's making points with intelligence and eloquence, something that very few seem to be able to follow. The entire Reds vs. Greens example is dead on, Reds play cutthroat, Greens play passive, Greens are forced to play cutthroat or get screwed. Reds can play their way no matter what. Of course the Reds like this system and of course the Greens hate it (when they're being bullied by Reds).
If you miss point in posts like this of his, there is no hope of you "getting it", you're simply too closed minded. Which is evident in everyone who's ever posted "BUT THE DEVS WANT THE GAME LIKE THIS" or the like. Closed mindedness at its finest.

lol, too bad that guy slayer quited this thread, i was waiting for the moment when he was gonna serve Xaxyx the ultimate ffa-argument to the question "why?": "Because if there are going to be loot options then nobody will play ffa anymore".
Brilliant.
That would have been a good laugh indeed.
I recently PM'd Chris asking him to speak on the subject, there is nothing personal in there so I think it is ok to post it publicly.

Hi,
I respect your stance even if I don't fully agree, I also appreciate you taking time to reply to me.
As a last note I would urge you to relay the message in the thread.
Thanks.

Hi - thanks for the mail and your continued feedback.
We're currently at record levels of party engagement in the game, and we're very pleased with how well that's doing considering the game is designed around being played solo.
Bear in mind that looting isn't actually pure-FFA at the moment (though we often wish it was) - there is an allocation timer that helps smooth out unfairness with lag and distance.
Adding more options to games is generally a bad thing. The goal of the game designers is to create a system of restrictions that challenge the players, rather than throw in dozens of options and allow the players to try to find a fun game in there somewhere.
I understand if allocated looting seems like a good idea when it hasn't been tested, but we have done extensive testing and have also seen how badly it hurt other games that implemented it. We feel this is a really important part of PoE to get right.

I have to say I am surprised you are happy with the current system when it is the biggest bone of contention people have with the game. Can I ask, are you happy with the amount of people actually playing public multiplayer? As far as I am aware it's a ghost town & if you read the threads it's apparent the main reason for that is FFA loot.
Do you not feel that adding more looting options would not be a benefit to the game in general rather than forcing ppl to play FFA or go solo?
Thanks.

We're pretty happy with how it works at the moment. There is great tension around item drops in multiplayer, but people are still able to grab ones that are allocated to them if they're paying attention.
We do read that thread and will continue to look at feedback. It could easily change in the future.

I have made my views on the looting options more than perfectly clear, so with the feedback from Chris this will be my last post on the issue.
Despite anything else in the thread, the above post is all I really care about.
I talked with Chris recently, and the summary was this:
"If theres enough interest, GGG will maybe consider Non-FFA leagues".
Lets show GGG that Non-FFA is an option many people want and need to enjoy this game! :)
I've been mulling over what's the most intelligent way to go about that task, but admittedly I'm unsure. I really don't want to be the idiot who's standing in the middle of town during the Open Beta going "Sign my petition! Click here! Sign my petition! Click here!"
It would be superfabulicious if the devs themselves championed such a cause (that cause being, polling the populace). I'm going to try exploring that venue and seeing how many bricks hit me in the face.

Ok here is the source:

It's possible in the future that we will allow this mode. So yes, we can change our mind. It wouldn't be because of the money that's being offered though :)
The feedback is really important - we're not trying to upset players. It's just that we feel it substantially weakens the game if there isn't appropriate item tension."

Fair enough. I've added that conversation to my sig, for ease of reference for all.
