if they changed the game every time vocal opinion decides something on the game needs changed, this game would be terrible.
Not necessarily true. After the most recent skill tree overhaul many poster were very vocal in pointing out where GGG could improve. Many of the suggestions were listened to and the game improved as a result. GGG original stance was that they were not going to include Unique items. Many posters were vocal about that and Uniques are in game.
GGG has shown themselves to be considerate of the Beta Tester's opinions. The last dev post on this thread was that they are continuing to watch the debate.

While I somewhat agree with you I also think your wrong about it. Look at any of the issues brought up in the forums. You will find that the majority opinion is usually the ones saying to keep the game as it is. There are more players saying that we do not need more respecs than there are saying that we need full respecs in the game. However on this issue there are more players asking for more looting options than saying to keep it the same. (Thats what I see anyway).
Changes to the game should be logical and not have a negative impact. Which is what I see here.

We are talking about the biggest "issue" the community has with the game. No other topic gets the forum space that looting does & this thread is one of the longest on any topic. It also happens to be one of the threads that GGG are least talkative in. That was my point.
If GGG are indeed interested in listening to the community then I think there are a number of people that would happy for more of a two way conversation even if it doesn't actually result in the game being changed.
There has been a bit of pointless mudslinging in this thread but also a hell of a lot of legitimate points raised, even if GGG have no intentions of changing things I do feel that it would be pertinent of them to give us a bit more conversing on the subject.

Open beta is getting quite close... could we get a definitive post from someone at GGG about where they are on this issue? It's the deciding factor on whether or not I put more money into this game.
They made their position clear long ago regarding the looting system:

It's important to us that Path of Exile has a cut-throat feel where players are not only competing against monsters, but also their fellow players. We do not feel it is an option to arbitrarily hide items from players who have not been allocated them.
To my knowledge, they have not made any further posts on this matter nor have they announced any intention of including different looting options. As such, players should not take the absence of additional GGG posts as evidence of anything: they simply have nothing new to add to the conversation from their perspective. If/when they do: you'll know.
Otherwise it's safe to assume their vision for their game has not changed.
that post was made almost a year ago. a lot has changed since then. so maybe another post from GGG to update on there stance would be nice

Sounds like you're looking for some validation. Here it is:

We're always watching. It is (especially this current discussion) very fascinating and does help us adjust the direction that certain undecided things take. We just don't have time to participate in the arguments unless absolutely necessary.
They're reading the thread, but they're also designing the game instead of bantering back and forth with the rest of us. Just because they are allowing us to continue discussing this stuff doesn't mean they are withholding information or making their position unclear; it just means that they are, in fact, "listening to their community".

You're right. I vote they hold a live discussion thread so this issue can be sorted out or reaffirmed. Just something like an hour or so, so it doesn't interfere with anything else. Could also be use full as just a "ask a dev" a question bit.

I just don't see what the problem is: more players in-game = more loot, faster killing speed, and more safety. The trade-off is that everyone gets a shot at the loot since you all shared in the effort, so you pick up what you can and shrug off what you miss. Sometimes the best item will drop right next to you, sometimes it's all the way across the screen...it's not that big of a deal. There will always be more items.
I do not want to compete with my fellow players, especially those already on my team. In Any Way. Ever.
Honestly, you could guarantee me 90% of the loot, triple the killing speed, guaranteed not to die, and I still would have no desire to play in a public group.
I accept and respect that other players enjoy this sort of Go Go Go competition. What I can't wrap my head around is why those players are SO freaking bent on not offering others the OPTION to let me enjoy the game the way I prefer, while I let them do the same.
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

Such is life when you've been exiled to the lawless wilderness with the rest of us. The only people "on your team" are the people that decide they want to be on your team. We're all just a bunch of outcasts starting over from nothing, after all, not a group of heroes united by a cause.
The game is to start over, to survive, to grow stronger, and to rise up again. It's a world of opportunity out there: you can resist it, hate it, and complain about it, or you can embrace it, learn to love it, and make some damn lemonade. You left your comfort zone a long time ago; it's about time you realized it.

This. This is how I feel about this game.

I'm happy with the system mechanics as they are, i do feel though that as a ranged player the allocated times could do with a slight increase as sometimes i can barely get there in time even if i click the item right away.
