Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" No, the notion is that orbs achs/fusings/chaos/divine/exalted and other forms of rare items are going to be very valuable to many players for a long time because they don't play this game many hours every single day. So when we lose these items to this loot system we find it irritating enough to avoid. Yes, I do play multiplayer and it hasn't changed my opinion at all. If nothing else, there should be loot options for public games solely because of pick-it bots. There is already a working version one.
As I have said before, if you really think a small company like GGG can keep bots in control better then say a massive company like Blizzard who has tons of resources and experience dealing with bots you are delusional. There is indeed a ton of loot in multiplayer games, the thing is that most of it is junk and stays on the ground for a reason. A bot being able to parse every item that drops in .01 seconds is always going to not only get more loot, but more importantly more valuable loot. Sure you are still going to get some items due to the timer, but most often you are not going to be able to judge the item value of everything on the ground like a bot will. At the end of the day the person with the bot is going to have 10x the loot (and of higher value) then of a regular player. People don't play D2 now for a reason, its not because of the gameplay is bad, its because if you hop onto Bnet right now, every single public game is going to be a paladin/sorc bot. So even if you think its a bad choice because of whatever reasons (you can't make friends in non-ffa loot, FFA loot makes better gameplay, or whatever) you should support public loot options simply because its one of the few ways to guarantee that pick-it bots won't become mandatory to play. |

Wow.
I would post a lengthier comment, but I do not think one is needed. |

" +1 I and others I have spoken to are quite apprehensive as to just how many bots are coming, instanced loot won't change that but I totally agree with your reasoning. |

Only thing i can think of is extending the timer. In the heat of clearing a difficult pack it's hard to pick up items. But I think as its designed it works fine. Don't party with random people if you want loot?

" Which is why noone plays public multiplayer? |

Maybe a lengthier response is needed....
Are you serious? To base an argument off of something that may or may not happen is asinine. Many other games have bots because they are VASTLY more popular and therefore more profitable. That's just for starters. Remember how blizzard went about bot control? By taking away ALL player defined ways of acquiring in game wealth? One of the main reasons that made me quit playing. One should never base an argument about a POSSIBLE future outcome, from a game that came out many years ago. Botters, and the accounts they're transferring to, can easily be found and deleted. m not saying this game won't have any bots, what I am saying, is that basing an argument off of it is, well, dumb. Besides, when a bot could easily join an instance with other bots, the whole argument is nullified since they wouldn't care about timers or instanced or FFA. It's all the same. |

" A quick google search showed me one locally-run mouse script (meaning not a server or client 'hack'), and it was not sophisticated at all. Another thing to note is that this is closed beta, a stage that doesn't normally see a full security suite (if any). |

" Just tell me what the chinese guys' account name is and I'll feed him some cash for orbs. <3 |

" My memory might be fuzzy but I could have swore a major Pro FFA argument was that with looting options no one would play FFA anymore...... Isn't that something that may or may not happen? Standard Forever
