By the way if you don't own the item on the ground then what gives you the right to boot people out of your game for playing the game the correct way? Really odd system this game has. Everyone's like "your supposed to play competitively!" and then they say "Well you can boot people out of your game if they take your items!"

Technically that is being competitive. Taking every advantage you can get to become better than others, etc.

Unless there's a vague sense of sportsmanship behind the idea of being competitive. I wouldn't know since I've never possessed the mentality myself.

You answered your own question.

You can boot ppl out of YOUR game (party). This is allowed by GGG. Thus, this is following the rules in game.

So does GGG want me to play competitively or boot people out of my game for playing competitively? If its ok to enforce my own rules then whats wrong with looting options? Just doens't make sense to me.

Standard Forever
Because looting options are a GGG rule. You've read Chris's post.

They want the players to be competitive with monsters and against each other. Kicking someone from your party can be considered competitive. If you feel that they are slowing your progress, boot em.

Looting options however imposes a rule on gameplay that cannot be avoided. Even though its an option, it would be forced upon everyone who enters automatically. Where now, they can still "ninja loot" and you can kick. Currently, someone could even be someone you trust to not ninja, but should a mirror drop, they back stab you. This would not be possible with a looting option. Period.

In the current game, there is NEVER a 100% possibility a player won't take something that is allocated to you, than turns to group. Thus, you can never be sure. With an option, this would not be possible.

Lets say you start a guild, where everyone agrees to a set of rules, you could play as per your rules for many years. A mirror drops. Does everyone still abide by your rules?
I smell Jay W. ideia in this loot system . . .

If it is not, someone is cloning his "awesome" ideas.
I like the cutthroat behavior. I personally would like to see a friendly fire league of some kind. That way you can really back stab someone for their loots...
Smoother than Smooth.
I can't wait for OB and the loot wars on the forums... it's going to be entertaining like this x100
Agreed.

The devs are going to see their dream come to fruition.

Will be great to see.

Dont forget, competition between enemies and players.

Edit. Own being used in terms of possession. Since GGG owns all and can do as they please.

And this serves as justification for game design.... how?

Well,

Wipes, legacy migrations. Since you dont own anything in game, you can't bitch (legally)...

My point still stands. No one can steal something that isn't yours (not talking about GGG owning). If an item drops and is allocated to you for a couple seconds, all that means is that you CAN take possession of it. If you dont. It's not yours.
Still no answer in regards to game design. I think I've made my point quite clear.
