Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

There is not much to argue about it.

It´s just a bad design. Simple as that.

The way it is design right now it only favors who multi box or stuff like that. Favor´s who have lower ping, etc..

If they keep the loot system like this, this gonna be a solo game. And the multi boxes still count as a solo game . . .

Don´t get me wrong, i really like the game, i even support it, but this loot system is just bad. Really bad . . .

Make it like D3's loot system - as much as I hate the game that's one thing they did right.

Not gonna get you wrong, it’s pretty clear.

You seem paranoid about some random person taking something that you imagine to be yours that you probably don’t really need. Because of this crippling paranoia, you are afraid to even meet people or earn anyone’s respect and therefore complete your self-fulfilling prophecy of “bad design”.

Very often the best items in the game are crafted – crafted from white items that nobody picked up and from alteration or alchemy orbs that can be crafted from other junk that people don’t even pick up.

I pretty much agree with this. I mean, i don´t hate D3, but it is a flawed game, but the loot system is really good for an hack and slash.

This is a big thing to remember, PoE is an hack and slash game, it is not an RPG, wen i play a Witch i don´t have to play the role or something like that.

Oh, all our characters are criminals, come one, dont gimme that, we are not playing this to role play the crap of it, if you role play, how you gonna role play the multi boxes are going on?

I really don´t like to be a douche and ninja whore everyone on games, or kick someone who dont follow the "Summoner Code". It´s just a bad way to implement the game.

Set a decent loot system,

I think rather than calling it a solo game, it might be more accurate to say a "non-cooperative" game

since the option to play with others is still present, and even encouraged since the game is online only, it's not really a solo game as much as it is a competitive game

actually, after reading through this thread and thinking on it a bit I believe I can understand Grinding Gear Games' stance on this, as a competitive survivalist aspect does instill a feeling of being stranded and desperate

although a problem I have with that is that the game already compromises this with core RPG elements beneficial to game integrity, namely the presence of towns/encampments

if the player is so needy as to scrounge everything you can from right in front of combatants who they might consider equal in power, why are the goods and provisions the NPCs have safe from this greed?

of course an RPG without a stash or vendors would be lacking indeed, and so is one that forces free for all looting :p

LoL! Im not paranoid about anything, lol again ... I don´t imagine it is mine, it´s suppose to be mine, cause you know, about 2 seconds ago there was my name on it, oops there is not anymore. How is that not bad?

If you want to make it a legit system, get rid of the timers. How about that? I think it´s better than the timer thing. I don´t like it, if you ask me, but i think the timer is just bad.

And if they keep the timer or get rid of it the game gonna still like a solo game, even if you multi box with "friends".

And the second paragraph it´s true, but you know, you need to loot that orbs my breda, but that orb with my name wans´t suppose to be mine, like you say . . . :)

Because looting options are a GGG rule. You've read Chris's post.

They want the players to be competitive with monsters and against each other. Kicking someone from your party can be considered competitive. If you feel that they are slowing your progress, boot em.

Looting options however imposes a rule on gameplay that cannot be avoided. Even though its an option, it would be forced upon everyone who enters automatically. Where now, they can still "ninja loot" and you can kick. Currently, someone could even be someone you trust to not ninja, but should a mirror drop, they back stab you. This would not be possible with a looting option. Period.

In the current game, there is NEVER a 100% possibility a player won't take something that is allocated to you, than turns to group. Thus, you can never be sure. With an option, this would not be possible.

Lets say you start a guild, where everyone agrees to a set of rules, you could play as per your rules for many years. A mirror drops. Does everyone still abide by your rules?

Figured I would repost this. This is the game design part. This right here. This is why there shouldn't be a loot option.

You are right. Way better description than solo game.

Non-cooperative suits perfect.

Thanks! :)

Its not yours, you had a head start to get it. That’s all. Among friends, they will usually not take something after the timer expires unless you walk away from it etc...

I am fully in support of removing the timers actually. The only redeeming quality of them to me is it would make a "pickit" style program (used in d2 to loot first) less useful.

I have tried multi-boxing in PoE and it’s not very fun or rewarding. Short of having bots follow you around it’s just not very practical. Results may vary I suppose.

Thank you for the rational reply! maybe I did get you wrong.

If players are expected to enforce loot rules we will need to have a loot log so we know who to kick from the group. If GGG will not include loot options please add a loot log and the ability to create a ban list for public groups.
