This a Bot

Wow---that's a lot of reading the same thing 50 different ways.

However, now that I have read this thread in it's entirety, I've had a good chuckle or two---or 138, on just about every angle of complaint, justification, penalty response, and every common bitch and moan scenario.

Having worked with and developed bots for numerous games, I can tell you first hand that you will never rid of this. You can make it painstaking, absurd, and a general pain in the ass, but for as long as PoE has a player base---you will have bots.

PoE has undergone a very lengthy closed beta phase compared to your common F2P game offering. And it has done so because of the solid, proud, and quality team behind it not wanting to release dog shit to the masses.

That fact alone holds my confidence in GGG to have most major issues handled prior to an open release.

What many fail to see is that the point to alpha and beta testing phases is exactly this. Find issues, and resolve them.

The only valid point in any complaint in this thread would be the user's lack of informing the GGG staff of the degree at which their recipe can be abused.

However, it has been stated that the staff was already aware of this matter. At which point, informing them would be pointless.

The only other viable issue to raise is that the user learned of the issue, knew it was considered an exploit of features, yet continued to proceed with it regardless. And at great length.

This was not done for testing. This was not done as a contribution. To proceed on with the use knowing how the intended outcome was viewed through the community and by the developers was an act of selfishness---and nothing more.

The exploit itself and the drive behind the use should be the subject---not the script.

As far as the penalty goes, from personal experience developing, hosting, and organizing several gaming communities in the past---I felt the name change was quite amusing. I have often taken the liberty of changing player names to show their offense as often times, the community outlook of the abuser within a community the abuser wish to stay a part of is often more of a nuisance than making them create a new account or change IP addresses.

Furthermore, if you have a community member with the aptitude to coordinate such an abuse of features, while you are still in a closed and temporary testing environment---why not leave them and let them do the work for you in finding the abuse?

Lastly---out of curiosity, am I really the only one left that uses packets for bot development rather than just auto clickers and pixels bots?

(Before the questions start, No I have not done so with PoE, nor do I intend to do so. I enjoy my time with PoE and would prefer it continue unobstructed.)

To all those who supported any form of automation then please think back on Diablo 2. Game was great but it was "marred" by? Recently Diablo 3 had problems such as trade scams (still happening) which uses what? Yep AutoIt.

I really dont know how the developers here can prevent these things but it is disheartening to see veteran closed beta players here have been using third party programs to makes things easier (seriously just say u want to cheat and gain an advantage-who are you kidding?-mind you we are not kids).

It is all in the mindset of the players himself. If you find that constantly buying certain materials or checking vendors a hassle-then dont do it. Noone is forcing you but your own greed.

As if i'd go research why you named your damned character. You think pretty highly of yourself.

Again all you have to do is blame the game/exploit.

In your head you did nothing wrong and this is the very reason you should be banned.
Uh, in my mind I abused an exploit, that's a "bad thing". On top of it I left an unattended script running, according to Chris, who's the only one who has an opinion that matters, that's another "bad thing".

I'm pointing out that it's stupid to QQ over a script when there are valid ways to use a script (or other forms of automation) that doesn't gain any real advantage, like scripting the sale of jewelers for fusings. The script isn't the issue, abusing the exploit is, and yes, I abused an exploit.

I suggest a class on reading comprehension, you'll see all over the thread I've said that what I did was wrong.

Also, regarding your failed attempt at guessing the intent behind "naming my character", you don't need to research why I named a character, I wasn't even the one that named it. It was a friend's account, he moved on to D3 and gave me the account.

Great man. I've said what I had to say. Go have fun with your scripts bro.

The Game was designed to be played "Manually" by a "Human" by means of a mouse and a few keyboard "HotKeys". Any other form of play should and certainly would be considered cheating by most players. In fact anyone that uses any form of automation knows full well that they are cheating the system.

I would certainly promote the identification of "automated" methods and "Reward" people that have obvious skill in identifying these methods. I believe it would go a long way to put the community at ease that the problem is receiving pro-active attention. (Give them a "Robot Kiwi" that is always visible on all their characters.)

Game automation must be killed at all cost.

Game exploits are a totally different matter. Yes! they too need to be identified and fixed if they will adversely affect the economy.

I'm BACK :)
Programming and/or statistical analyses are a hobby for some. A hobby that is frowned upon if it involves botting, but so is downloading movies or speeding on the freeway.

My point being that humans tend to assume that people have a bad personality when others do it, but are capable of justifying their own behavior when doing it themselves.

In fact, I believe that TehHammer is a victim of the same behavior as the people condemning him in this thread. Before the shift of attention to his bot, he most likely thought of it as a victimless crime.

I think for punishment you should write a script that takes a list of stash tab + coordinates of things to vendor, then gets them out and vendors them.

I'm getting bored of playing stash tetris, and a bit of automation wouldn't go amiss in leiu of some friendlier interface for managing forty pages of yellers :p

It's funny how most people don't get it. It's not about the recipe it self but how he uses third-party software to cheat. I would ban him immediately, closed beta or not.
seems to me like he was using second party software, as he wrote the script himself, and not third party.

no srlsly guise.
I found more 5l in the last 3 major patches than i got by using the recipe, let alone 6l.

Here's the scripts that I propose everyone use:

Automatically chugs pot #5 when your HP drops below the 30% threshold for "low life". Put your "instant recovery when on low life" pot there and enjoy having super human reflexes.

A similar script that automatically drinks mana potions for you, it's a little more complicated because you need to manually put in values for what your max mana is and what size/time mana pots you're using. From there it automatically calculates when to use a mana pot to keep you at maximum regen without wasting charges.

A loot picker that automatically grabs yellows/golds that are near your character. One that grabs 6 socket items would be nice, but much more difficult to implement.

None of these scripts are detectable, all they do is emulate someone that has excellent reflexes. We want an even playing field here, right guys? No more advantages for being younger and more nimble or having a fancier mouse or any of that crap.
TehHammer is not a crime!
