i ask myself if a pure es variant might be the better choice for this build:
currently thinking about this endgame build: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYBBbUMfQzyDq0QexB_ES8UdRXXFr8Y2xoyG8gc3B0UHhoegSFgKCootSjFKPoppSsKLIUsvzBUMHwyCTY9Ps9AoEMxQ2NDnEZxRwZLjUw1UUdRYFPfVmNY21j1WhpeE19qYIhhUmaeZ2duaXFNdEF08XfXfyt_xoTZhq6H24hrjb-PRo_6kyeVIJlXmZqaz53EnrmfJ5_Lpcumf6cIqZWsr7GztAy0xbVItkG297cxuJO95r46vqfAD8EAwcXB2MKAwuzDhsae0k3Xhtsa2-fnketj6-7sGO1B707zvvVL-tL_HP-T the problem is leveling is a pain and the base version with all the necessary nodes comes at around lvl ~70 you need Soul Taker to run tempest shield + discipline + determination + purity + grace, i.e. no hatred. you need the either auxium belt or dream fragments and rainbow strides. compared to a life hybrid: plus side: -more es than es+hp combined -can use much more granite flasks making blocking with aegis aurora that more powerful combined with really high es pool -immune to chaos (although my current hp/es hybrid has 60+ chaos res which makes me practically immune, i don't feel chaos dmg at all) -can use melee dmg on full life and blood rage (again i could use those too, but i dont) -lots of frenzy charges and dmg nodes and attk speed nodes which all get a huge buff from multistrike -you can run frenzy or double strike for full phys dmg giving you much higher sustain with leech, which in combination with block + granites makes you nearly invulnerable. with a hybrid build you either leech hp or es. negative: -no mana for hatred -no elemental adaption -status alignments last longer than on a life build (on the other hand you also avoid them much more often) -only viable much later in the game (a true endgame build) -more expensive -no resolute technique or very late in the game i really don't know if i want to continue my hp/es hybrid or start a pure es version. i certainly got the items/currency for it, but i would really like to know from someone who tried it, if it is viable/better then a hp/es hybrid. Well that can work for regular map clearing, and propably will work, but there's a little something that will get you killed very easily against bosses:
-Only 21% Block from passives -Low armour You'll end up having only 55% block with that, and even if using Rainbows + Lazhwar, your spell block will be around at 30%, which is very very low. If you're going to use granites for armour boost, it will not work against bosses, because you will end up consuming them all before boss is dead, specially on full party and you will need resistance potions aswell. And boosting armour for more ES refresh per block with low block rating will not refresh much at all. I've been playing with guys who rely on huge Life Leech with Vaal Pact, their chars have had maximum of 18k armour, 20% life leech and close to 30k dps, but they still can't take more than 3 shots from Pietys Ice Shot and it's all because of the low armour they have, it's the burst damage that kills them. And that's Piety with no damage affecting map modifiers. But as I said, it propably works for mapclears and it's all what you like to do. I like to kill bosses, i like challenge, not as much as i did enjoy it at lower levels, now almost at level 97, it's better to skip bosses with really hard mods :) Last edited by Juhazzz#5503 on Sep 9, 2013, 4:58:34 AM

I had figured the new map would pose no real threat to our build, but still haven't been lucky enough to drop one.

Just did poor joys with my map party and boy was it hard the spinewrecks were hitting me 1-1.5k phys burst with vulnerability so i suggest you take warding flasks and even immortal call if you have too, boss wasnt too hard easiest part of the run but the mobs.... freaking hurt!!
and was close to dieing several occasions ive got around 16k armor and capped resist and around 32k armor granited and one mob came real close to even one shotting me. But that was because i was too careless and didnt use warding flasks when i saw vulnerbility mobs. IGN: Jinarius Last edited by Omniverse71596#3705 on Sep 9, 2013, 11:55:31 PM

Thanks, Dragon! Really love the build. Level 84 now and this is by far my favorite character.
I was hoping to maybe get some input on my following dilemma. Right now with Soul Taker and a 5L my dps is around 13k. The armor I use is: I am trying to decide if I should try to 6L this one or not. It's i70, so doesn't have the greatest mods, but the alternative seems to be either (a) getting a mirror or (b) crafting my own 6L. But unless I get massively lucky I don't know if I will ever have a mirror, and crafting my own seems like it might take so many eternals/exalts that I won't be able to afford that either. So 6L-ing my current armor seems like a cheaper option but not sure if it is worth the investment. I do have a 6L that I use for MF-ing but it has lower armor and no ES. I guess I just have to make up my mind, but if anyone has any thoughts on my quandary, they'd certainly be welcome =) |
