I'm strictly against Auction Houses. They ruin a grinding game's feeling for me. I personally would like to see bartering made in forums or in trade channels.
An auction house means that people do not need to grind anymore, instead they could just buy items from the ah, not my type of game :/
Diablo2 did not have such a system and there were no problems. So why would this game need one? Trading is not everything, hunting for better gear is the real deal. If I don't find the need to hunt anymore, cause there are systems that allow me to simply buy it off from some automated system what's the point playing then?

When you put it like that, I can't but at least partially agree with you.
I would at least like to see an in-game board with access to the trading forums, so I don't have to alt-tab to my browser to post or read something...
That'd be sweet.
This won't really change your mind, but you could either use the steam overlay and it's ingame browser, or the magnificent borderless windowed mode of PoE that looks exactly like fullscreen, but lets you alt tab out without any complications, not even that 1 second screen flicker.
;)
But that was way OT, just a little tip in between.

GGG are intelligent people who are well aware of the reaction to ToG's auction house.
Dont think we have to worry about this ever becoming a reality.
In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

Maybe when/if I get a laptop that doesn't struggle with minimum settings as it is ^^
Both good points though, I almost always use maxed window mode if I can.

Yeah, me too, unless I tried this one. Not a single drawback as far as I can see.

I'm not sure if someone has brought this up earlier, I just got home and didn't want to read through every post so sorry if this is redundant.
During a huge unofficial Q&A session Chris had with Normal Global Chat a week ago, Chris mentioned that there will most likely be an implemented Auction House in PoE. The idea is to enhance trade in a way that isn't spammy in Global Chat.
Now before any AH opponents start to freak out, GGG has actually taken the necessary precautions to make sure that the AH doesn't break the feel of the game like it has in other ARPG's. They are making it so that there is no buyout price on the AH so that the feeling of more convenient trade doesn't completely trump the need to go out and search for items yourself, while building bids will increase the profit of trading and simultaneously require a large time investment for both parties.
Personally, I would think of it just as improved trading methods. Chris even said that it wasn't exactly an AH that we've grown to know in other games.
My excitement about this game just deflated significantly, I can only hope you are misquoting him. I saw a dev post that the web-based system will be comfortably non-AH, but I can't find it for the life of me.
Efficient economic tools which allow a large percentage of the dropped item pool to be traded easily make the market hyper-elastic which deflates all item value and consequently the fun of finding loot while grinding, and the removal of the need to meet for trading kills the community.
Jesus I hope they don't fuck this up.

I think Diablo 3's Auction house has left a bad taste is a lot of peoples mouths.
When done correctly, an Auction House could be a very useful and great tool in any MMO.
Like suggested in this thread even a simple "barter board" would be great. Person A posts in game on a central board (like the party board) with what he is searching for. Person B see's this post and is interested in trading because he posses the items wanted by Person A, they now can make contact and trade. Simple. What is everyone so scared of?

This is new. Did you take any screenshots, or was anyone else here also there to corroborate this?

I could completely get behind that. I'm just worried that people (even our esteemed and quite brilliant devs) might be blind to the risks of economic tools like Auction Houses (even severely crippled ones) so they might make it a lot more automated than what you described.

I really, really, really hope no form of item search is enabled in this game. If you do decide to implement it, please create a league without this feature. I feel like an auction house makes any arpg feel like an MMO. I have nothing against MMO's but if I want to feel like I'm in an MMO I'll play one.
