i dont see whats so wrong in somethings that is optional. letting players choose if they want to see only normal dmg or crit dmg or both, only the dmg they do or everyone, or just the crit dmg everyone is doing, or nothing at all.

Because some things that are optional, aren't really optional. If it makes you play better, by doing the math for you, which is what it is doing, than its not really optional.

If you have a pen and paper to solve an equation. While the guy next to you has a calculator, who's going to finish first? The teacher said calculators are optional. But in reality, they're mandatory. Otherwise, you're slower than everyone else at reaching the same answer.

Lmfao this must be...
Spoiler
Troll Bait.
"FullyBlownDaddy"-FullBlownDaddy™
"FillBlownDaddy"-GGG
"FullBlownMommy"-Casual_Ascent
No, I'm quite serious. It would not be seen as an option.

If you want an OP effective build, you need to know exactly what effects what. By giving this information away, instead of testing it for yourself, it is no longer an option. You must use the combat text.
I agree with Slurms that it wouldn't really be optional. Everyone trying to maximize efficiency would turn it on, period. It's kind of like having item tags on all the time; the reaction to anyone who doesn't do it would be "wtflolnoob."

That said... okay, so it would be essentially mandatory, so what? How is this a bad thing? The game already gives you things like your (estimated) DPS automatically, and I think that's better than if it didn't. So why would we object to knowing, for example, the max life of Cruel Brutus?
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Because what it says, and what you're doing are two completely different things. Like you said, estimated. But that's just estimated of your attack. The enemies have resists and armor. So, yeah.

Also, and this is just my personal opinion, I hate knowing the exact hp, in numerical form, of enemies. Never understood how we knew that information. Does Brutus come out and say, " you will never take down my 150k HP muwhahahaha"

Well, no. He doesn't.

But you already have all the numbers on the input end. You choose swords based on how much damage the deal and how fast they swing. You choose armor based on its defensive values. Not having floating numbers pop up isn't truly hiding something from you, it's like throwing a towel over a horse's head and saying "ha! now you can't see it!"

Fair enough. Like I said, it's not that I don't want it there period. It's just that I do not understand having it. Or the benefits that come with it.

Which is why it should come with a toggle, if you happen to be one of those types who doesn't enjoy that type of thing.

I think the main problem would be in DOT implementation.

We are still talking about enemy HP bars right?

Because dmg text everyone will HAVE to use. (Which is why I'm against it)
Yes please include damage/heal/drain etc. type popup texts, preferably pinata style popups that fly up and cascade down. Make it a toggleable option to cater to players who don't want it.
Wilhuf
to me floating text would remove a little cutthroat atmosphere by revealing the unknown

im against FCT
