How about giving the party leader the option of setting the timer length?

The only part that's not good is the removal of my name and others names on the loot. Normally I train my eyes to look for certain names, like my own or item names and socket colors and links. Now I have no reference on the loot except the shading. Instead of looking for my name on items I now have to basically scan the entire pile and on the fly and search for slight hue differences in loot which is incredibly more difficult. QQ or whatever you want to label it but even though it adds much needed balance to loot, and makes it so more loot can fit on the screen which is also amazing, it does, at least so far seem to make the process of finding YOUR loot more difficult overall as well as causing disaster in friendly parties that liked to rely on the random distribution the game provide and will now have to ninja in their own parties or figure out other methods of distribution.

This could be fixed in a way that sounds easy but may be difficult to implement. Either designate each position in the party with a color and then border that player's items and picture on the left side of the screen with that color, sort of like map borders are white. The leader could be red and his picture and all his drops, while greyed out, will have his red color border so that there is at least someway of identifying whats yours, other than its brighter than the rest. The second player could be blue the third green and so on. Either this or even a small number like designate 1-6 to the position in the party and somewhere on the loot's name it would show a number while its greyed out. Without a way to scan and distribute based on identifying it's much more chaotic. There was never a problem in identifying what was yours other than how much space the loot took up, removing blues sorta solved this problem already I feel you went too far.

Definitely way more good than bad, but could be tweaked.

This is Genius!!!
adding Borders to each persons loot in accordance of there position to the group

*it fixes the problem i think GGG was tring to address of less clutter(adding names is more clutter but a way to determin loot is wanted greatly by many group player)

*but there is one issue with this map drops. IDEA: make them have a thick border

now i know there is multipul different styles of players out there
so i can only talk on the type of player i am.

this new patch while playing in friendly parties makes you feel riped off not knowing whats what. so i could play with different rules somewhat eg:

*we pickup all loot and roll on each piece after we finish the map
lame idea because it slows the speed of the game down far too much and becomes unfun

*i play solo
lame because i feel that the game WAS made for multiplayer and now is not and considering i like to make support charaters(that give arua's, charges, and shock stacks) that stays at the back(missing out on all loot)

*or quit and go find a game that has fair loot
lame because the game in whole is amazing

now with those options i would have to op. for solo play which i will hate and will make the game feel like a grind which i will diffenatly lead to making me quit.

GGG while i know this is only one stlye of gameplay please try and come up with a solution that works for all/most of the comunity perhaps make options to show/hide these borders

no names on them will be quite annoying, in our map group we rely on the names to allocate the gear that drops :/ we all cant see every drop at the same time. gentleman style just got harder...

i agree.
it is actually harder to play in group even with trusted players

just separate the loot. i like the idea of pvp loot but with huge item quantity on maps it's just letters on screen.

Not everybody likes the sickening feeling of being stolen from. Not everybody likes "tension". It's a game, I play it to escape stress, not to get stressed.

Your GCP wasnt stolen..you FAILED to grab your item before it became FFA. In other words..YOU..as a gamer..failed! I don't see how that translates into an item was stolen from you.

^This.

Having names on the timer was a big mistake and I'm glad the developers have decided to step away from that method. Noobs should be grateful that there is an allocation timer at all (and I agree it is needed to even out distance and latency advantages).
The removal of the timer and name tag is a problem for me, for the following reasons:

1. Having the timer was excellent. It told me how long I had to stand in a pack to loot an item for a friend, and how long I had left to loot an item that was "mine".

2. The timer and name tag made the clickable area for valuable items that belonged to you larger, which in turn made looting "my" items easier because they were more obvious and more easily clickable.

3. The name tag made it possible to split up loot when playing with multiple friends when we weren't necessarily paying much attention to loot. Everyone knew whose item a specific drop was, even when the person in question was offscreen from their item.

4. I can't white knight in loot-to-name groups anymore. I would frequently pre-ninja items in these groups to hand to the appropriate person, because it was a fun mini-game to play as a melee build. This one is just a personal gripe, and I'll admit it's the least important of the four.

Please consider giving us options regarding loot, at least insofar as displaying the timer and name tags. This is really just an incredible quality-of-life nerf regarding loot.

I don't care about the loot timer extension at all. I could take it or leave it. The name tag/timer were really the best. I was pushing for permanent name tags on an item, even after it became FFA lootable, just so playing with friends would be easier logistically.

I do enjoy that magic items are no longer allocated. Blues for the lose.

This loot system just continues to get worse. Now my friends cant even tell who the drops are for... brilliant.

Just give two loot options. instanced or FFA, party leader can toggle these two options. Everybody wins.
Hi,

I played with this patch a bit this morning.

I totally approve of removing the names from the drops.

The timer needed a "little" extending, I think, but I don't yet have good feedback to give on how the full additional second noodles with FFA play. I would have thought 250-500 msec instead, but can't really complain about 1. I would have preferred a baby step, and then a later baby step if the first weren't enough, philosophically, but that's just a subjective statement. But I suspect I know why you took a larger step now, and will leave it at that. :-)

Regarding the lack of the progress meter:

This actually mucks with FFA play a bit. Let me tell you how.

If I am running along, and not particularly close to everyone else, if there is an item for which the timer was short, I would stop to pick it up. If it were long, and there were people behind me, I'd leave it alone and move to the next pack instead. I now don't have the information I need to do this. This isn't any kind of crisis, but I'd suggest that as time goes by, we figure some kind of subtle way to make this information available without contributing to screen clutter.

Thank you,

p.s. perhaps the brightness of the letters of the drop could be made to grow letter by letter, left to right? I.e., the letters are the timer? Dunno if that would look too christmas-tree-like or not.

All of today's changes were long waited and welcomed, besides 1 in my opinion (and many others as i've seen while reading this thread): NO NAME on loot.

This is a very bad change, that will probably produce more "chaos" than it was intended to reduce. I can't even tell 50% of the time which item is which when playing with friends (most ranged, thats why) , i don't even dare to enter public games now, cuz it is probably a ninja fest :D. If a friend was closer to the mobs, and the others wouldn't see the loot names, he would usually tell us which is which. Now what? Just guess?

Name on loot stay the way it was (i never thought it chaosed things Oo ) , i see absolutely no use for it to be removed.

Just tried the changes, here what I noticed:

-No names makes loot more cutthroat and further reduce friendly loot distribution (calling out names on loot).

-Not seeing timer to items allocated to me remove a lot of the rush to get it.

-Like many said, there should be loot options and I think FFA and Instanced Loot should be part of the options. I'm pretty sure many people quit the game over FFA annoyance and would without a doubt come back if instanced loot was introduced as a loot option. That would also fix all the loot complains.
