Also remember that participation sort of dilutes true representative efficiency, a good, knowledgeable player is still likely to do really well with these constraints compared to the average player.

The more good players participating in this, the less representative it ends up being of actual efficiency, since they no longer use the most efficient methods. It's already obvious that most of these constraints wouldn't be a competitive player's first choice, the very premise is fundamentally about being gimped.

I would support this if my connection wasn't so incredibly garbage of late, though.

My main point is that there will be actual ladder rankings to look at, where we can observe the Melee players doing well, while with a self-imposed race it would require a lot of organization on every person's part.

I loved the idea. Won't play in it because I really don't like the idea behind HC, specially in a melee build. I really don't see how I could survive even Act 1 normal in a melee build with no gear and not even proper gems for the build! It requires really heavy gamers (plus lots of farming).

However, if I ever do play in such "community leagues" (again, I really like the concept), I would consider Lightning Strike and Ground Slam as "non melee". I have played high level chars in both and in my view they are played as and act as RANGED BUILDS, no different then EK, Freezing Pulse, or anything with Multiple Projectiles really.

I would really like to see how short-range melee builds can do right now in HC. I love melee so much that my current char is melee, in default merciless though.

Same question than others Kripp , seems interesting and i would like to be in , hardcore melee gonna be fun but : how can you ensure that everyone won't trade , buy , or use forbidden skills

Not sure about some other skills but Lighting Strike is not Melee. My LS hits farther then i can see.

Wat. Melee is ezmode through A2 cruel. Earliest you really need to farm is maybe cruel Docks or at worst cruel Fellshrine/Western Forest if you've had really bad RNG.

You have to TRUST that players who are going to SMASH will follow the guidelines posted herein.

The point of this whole thing is that Kripp doesn't want to feel like he has to play 5.5 days during the 7 day race. He also wants some sort of competition while playing the race. He will end up playing approximately 4 days.


The determining factor on whether I participate MANMODE MELEE STYLE(MMS) or even regular style is how the Reward Points and possible other rewards are being offered.

Seems to me like something about being honest. Since there is no actual reward playing the SMASH-way, I hope people keep honest. It's all about fun and pushing melee as far as possible, and not like anyone is going to challenge the ranged chars for top 20.
Maybe the players can take a screenshot if someone with the SMASH-tag tries to trade. :P
