Gonna join this. Looks fun. Also about no trading.
here is my question if i just sell items and don't use the orbs i get from trades.(Save them for my hc char). Does it count as trading? | |
" I'm definitely selling stuff to get currency for the normal league. I'll just use a secondary account to do the selling and keep the currency separate, don't see anything wrong with that since it has no impact on your main char anyway, similar to how multiboxing is allowed in the race to get skill gems. Hell that's actually affecting the char a lot more even. |

Yeah, I think I am going to hop in too. It's not that this otherwise fine idea is any different from the way I usually play. I just like melee better compared to ranged, even if it is worse. Other rules suit me well too, no problems.

Heads up to everyone playing this (you're stacking life, right?), normal is a breeze, cruel is a breeze with some of act 3 being a bit harder, merciless chaos damage is where it starts getting bad. Vaal is going to piss off a lot of people with less than 4.5k hp.

" Eh not really. The adds are the issue on vaal definitely but if you have any decent damage you can instantly kill the chaos guys with a leap slam or a flicker and the others are a non factor and vaal himself isn't very hard as long as you are in melee range. Kinda depends on the build and stuff. You just need to find one piece of gear with good chaos resist in felshrine/ledge farm and you should be fine. If you're lucky vaal will spend a lot of time not summoning though, and then you can smash him pretty easily as a solo melee. To me sewers in act3 or warehouse which I usually skip(go from slum sewers to warehouse sewers then use a pub docks farm group to get to docks and go to solaris/market from there instead) are where shit gets real chaos wise, since you have alchemists and the LMP snakes, and those are extremely annoying as a melee especially if your chaos resist is crap. " Wasn't really talking about Vaal's adds, just meant chaos damage in general from act 2 onwards (and obviously particularly bad in act 3 and maps). If you can guarantee that you won't be smashed by Vaal, he's trivial. |

Discharge, Molten Shell, and Tempest Shield are skills I could see being used in a melee race. Can somebody think of a reason why they should not be allowed? They seem to be in the spirit of the challenge if not the letter (technically not melee damage, but practically they are).
As for troublesome skill gem allowances, I would say Ground Slam is the only one that really sticks out in my mind as almost surely being problematic. Argue semantics all you like, but of all the Melee skills Ground Slam is probably the most ranged-like. This is not only because of its potentially large area of effect, but also because the skill is able to keep enemies at range via its stun effect. Ground Slam can be activated at range, deal damage at range, and keep enemies at range; these things trouble me. However, I will simply opt not to use Ground Slam myself and try to enjoy the challenge. I love the solo and no-trade aspects of the competition, but I wish same-account trading were off limits too. The Analytical Engine has no pretensions whatever to originate anything. It can do whatever we know how to order it to perform. Last edited by Adalace#3210 on Mar 1, 2013, 12:51:33 PM
