Donald Trump and US politics
" North Korea already have nukes. They can nuke South Korea, Japan, China and Russia, it is within their targeting range. Now they are working on ICBM that can strike US cities with atomic weapons. US and N. Korea aren't exactly friends. How do people sleep well at night? Just cross your fingers they don't use it like everyone else. It is true... Or you can tell Trump to keep provoking Kim Jong-un. If they are aiming their nukes at America, they aren't aiming it at the rest of us. Right? You can shoot it down, right? |

" Yeah, I know they have nukes and are working on an ICBM. The psyop I mentioned would aim to depose Mr. Kim before he has the opportunity to press the button and murder millions. (In a related note, I'm still very surprised there haven't been a non-stop stream of assassination attempts...) I don't think the plan of baiting them into attacking our defense system and then retaliating is a good one. We spend a lot of money on missile defense systems, but I don't think they've historically stopped anything or even been proven to work reliably in tests. We've been grasping at it ever since Reagan-esque Star Wars with nothing to show for it. Stepping down "Team America World Police" would be great. Trump taunts, but if at the same time he continues the current bent of telling other countries to learn how to protect themselves, that seems best for everyone in the long run. |

Meanwhile, in la la land ... nothing. Dumbasses have gone home with no HC passed, no budget discernibly in progress.
Trump needs to cut the fucking funding. Let them pay out of pocket for their own colonoscopies. Who knows? An indy doctor may find their brains lurking in there. Somewhere. Censored. Last edited by kolyaboo#7295 on Aug 10, 2017, 12:29:31 PM

" There is an amount after which it becomes necessary to let people die off. If we can't talk about that, then healthcare is on a trend toward infinite cost, full stop. In addition: - How much of your money would you spend on saving your own life? - How much of someone else's money would you spend on saving your own life? - How much of someone else's money would you spend on saving a group of people that includes you? The solution to the healthcare problem isn't "pay for everyone's bills" nor is it "pay for nobody's bills". The former is a fiscal landmine, the latter is just heartless. --- Separately, the bigger problem in my eyes (as I've stated a few times ITT) is that the price keeps jumping every year*. Seems like a confluence of things: this principal-agent problem, hospitals that don't post prices, the secret handshake deals that cause a huge delta between individual pricing and group rates, and of course, better hospitals that charge more for better service. I don't mind paying for other people's bills when they're cheap. At the moment, just paying for basic checkups and minor incidents for myself and my family is already a huge amount of my income, so asking me to pay for someone else's health as well is a large ask. Sure I care about the old, crippled, and sick. I'll statistically be one some day, so I'll skip eating out once or twice a month instead to pay it forward. I'm not going to skip a mortgage payment to pay for it, though. If someone ran on the position of "you'll pay the same percentage of your income toward health every year, but I'll bring down costs (targeting some of the less controversial problems listed above) and use the same amount of funds to cover more people", I'd vote for them. Sadly, no party in the USA is running on that platform.

![]() Seemingly regardless of country or what system that country uses to determine who pays the bills, the trend is upward and exponential. |

WTF? Reading is fundamental. I was talking about congress going home. Duh.
My heart bleeds for six figure lazy senators who have to pay for their own HC. You guys are priceless. Censored.
