a) If we restore the items in a way that duplicates them then users are able to arbitrarily copy their items by presenting a plausible looking case to our support department. This is actively abused in other games and their playerbases know that they can duplicate items at will through customer support.

Ya, no. It should only take a minute glancing at logs to see whether a compromised account claim is valid or not, the item trail is extremely obvious in either case.

So many other games offer this service because it's nearly impossible to exploit. I can't think of a single game where people abuse customer support to dupe items in the way you claim, it's just far too easy to check the logs and see what really happened.

It's also more than just customer support. Every hacked account claim they look into is a chance to track down the items and ban holding accounts. Customers get their items back and hackers lose product, win-win.

But ya, if you don't have the people to do it you should have just opened and closed with that fact.

I just wanted to drop a line on this thread since it seems this is the largest congregation of people who have reported it.

I was told that someone else logged in at a different city than me via email (brother didnt have to do the email log in but I did so the first time someone logged in as me set my city elsewhere)

Is it possible that the first login check DIDNT check for an accurate password?

hamburg, berlin... ,so i get a message logged in from a diffrent location... now i just have to type my stored pw new , thats ok for me

but i read u want to handle this , that i have to check my email and type a key

The second feature is a much more important one - accounts become locked if someone logs into them from a different city. An unlock code, which is sent to the account's registered email address, is required to unlock the account. If you get this email when you haven't logged in from a remote location then you should change your password immediately and investigate how someone learned your password (scan for malware, etc).

The streamer had his account restored because we made a grave mistake when doing a manual customer sevice operation. This was 100% our fault and not in any way related to him losing his password. This won't happen again in the future because we won't be making that customer service mistake again!

I'll admit I wasn't fully educated on the situation thanks for clearing that up

Adding the option to use an authenticator (hardware or app) would be great. It's easy to handle and fairly save.
