Hacked Accounts

so i just logged in today and apparently I was one of the people that got hacked last night. Probably a phishing site that got me considering i havent used any external programs at all.

Atleast I'm not that rich, only a few high tier orbs and a shitload of chromatics. hell they even took some of my wisdom shards.

First off, I would like to give kudos to GGG for working diligently on fixing this issue. For being such a small team, updates have been numerous, and effective.

Secondly, to the people who have been hacked, even the most secure system can be compromised. This is a rather sad fact, but a fact, nonetheless. An effective "stop" can never be created (short of pulling the plug to the network), but countermeasures can be put into place. Many of these countermeasures have been listed throughout this thread. However, one that I noticed that hasn't been mentioned, is Do. Not. Support. Third Party "pay for" site. Sites that offer power levelling, currency, items, or "hacks" (speedhacks, maphacks, etc.). These sites are the major culprits in almost every single game "hack". "Farming" has gone to the wayside, for these businesses, and it is far more cost-effective and less time consuming to compromise someone else's account, steal their currency/items, and sell them to the "instant gratification" crowd.

Let's face it. This game is a skinner box. A damn fine game, but a skinner box, nonetheless. 3/4 of this game is all about, "one more hour of farming, and hopefully I can get x item to drop", or "Just... one... more level...". So you go buy a power levelled character, in full 4 & 6 slot rares, and a bunch of gems. Great, you can now steam roll everything. But... now what? What would your purpose be to play that character?

Long story short, ALWAYS protect yourself - "hope for the best, expect the worst" - change your password consistently, look into ad/popup(under) blockers, script blockers for your browser. Run anti-malware software on a regular basis, and use common sense. Never, ever support third party paid services.

And, please, for the love of god, relax and enjoy the game!

I changed my passwords on another device, and reformatted my computer, I'm as safe as can be at the moment on a fresh windows install.

I used the same password for many, many sites and games, so it does not surprise me, do I deserve to lose my stuff?

I feel I don't, I feel like I was rather unlucky, but at the end of the day it 'is' my fault, however the comments and reactions people are leaving about this situation are quite obnoxious, not only do we lose our items, we have to read insulting posts on how 'stupid' we are. What a lot of people aren't getting - is this could have just as easily happened to the very people degrading the hacked players.

How many people reuse passwords? I bet you - 60-70% of the people critiquing everyone on their 'security' reuse a password, somehow, somewhere, in some shape or form on some website and another.

Like Chris said - other sites get compromised and passwords get leaked, excuse me for only using 4 passwords I rotate between for almost everything. Next time I'll have to make it five, it's quite absurd honestly, in today's day and age with all of our technology, all of our logins, between work, play, phone, websites, I have dozens and dozens of accounts and passwords - how dare we use the same 4 passwords.

Long story short, technically me getting hacked is my fault, but ALOT of us are reasonable people, and bashing our heads in that it's our fault is quite absurd, because as I said - it could have just easily happened to 70% of the people posting.

I got hacked and my softcore stash got raided, lost all of my valuable currency. My hardcore stash seems untouched. I can definitely see how customers can get put off from PoE after having their stash randomly cleared out. I'm seriously thinking of quitting after this.

Dude, the probability of all the people that got hacked having the same login and password on another site it's pretty much 0%.

I logged in to find my lvl60 HC marauder in default and both my hc as sc stash raided. Actually the gear on the marauder is worth twice the amount of currency that he took from the stash(16%q gmp/chain/gears). I got pwned by a newb lmao.
I don't care so much for the loss of all my currencies but that he killed my HC dude is just trolling.


I use different pw's for my email/game accounts. This is the first time I log in, so there's not even a chance of "fake sites". No hax and never got hacked in any other game (and I've been around for a while).


Not planning on starting over and I understand there will be no rollback or restoration. Was fun while it lasted, GG & BB GGG. :)

got hacked too lost everything but the worst thing is that they killed my HC 47 mara that i loved to play not gonna start over iam completly ruined:(
