Hacked Accounts

Hahahahahaha, TehHammer I love every single one of your comments. Accusations all over the place. Implications you know anything about bf-strats, gifts distribution or anything about game security other than grandma's safe password tips. Although it's obviously not the case, I wouldn't even be surprised if you would LOVE to know more about the scene, being an elitist prick as you are. :D Fortunately, people with your attitude don't get far there. Also please let me insult your real life. You must not have many friends with this kind of behavior. My work here is done. Optionally you can come at me bro. :D

Its funny how you keep spouting "Deny, deny, deny", when you're constantly denying that anything other than user stupidity could be the cause of the hacks.

Anyway, I better stop feeding the troll. You probably dont actually believe the crap you're spouting yourself, so why bother.
Because one of two things is happening, users are at fault - highly, HIGHLY likely - or GGG is at fault, not likely at all and probably something they'd catch very fast. Therefore it's pretty obvious that users that are denying are almost certainly at fault, even if they don't realize it. You can learn, or you can pretend that it's not your fault. I've done my part, continue to ignore the obvious, I'm fine with that, I still have my account.

Hmm, fresh account. Joined after your original account got hacked?

It might actually be smart of them to go random, because look at this thread; many here are denying fairly adamantly that there are possibly hackers at work.
I don't think anyone is arguing that there aren't hackers at work. The question is which is easier, finding an exploit in a game that allows you to steal people's passwords, or setting up a simple phishing scheme/website or put together a fake map hack that logs your keypresses. The simple answer is usually the right one. If GGG admitted they had an exploit (and I'm fairly certain they'd have plenty of data to find correlation if it was something as simple as people in the same instance as a hacker or something similar) then I'd have your backs as much as I could, the bottom line is GGG is very confident that it isn't their fault, and that's good enough for me to trust them.

Fair enough; I worded that poorly. I meant hackers as in, people hacking through the game client itself, not just running a program that captures passwords.

And I see what you mean, sure, the phishing is easier, and is probably used a lot of the time. All I'm trying to say here is ...

Maybe I'm still coming off wrong. What I mean is:

How can we be SURE that it's always on the user's end, and that the game could not ALSO have an exploitable feature, that could be done in addition to the others, when all we have are a bunch of reports from people who also don't seem to know just how it happened?

I think you're confusing being honest with being arrogant and condescending. That is, in fact, not the same thing. You're also quite ignorant, and clearly not aware of it.
Here, I'll give you some arrogant and condescending:
Spoiler
Aw, did the poor little idiot get pwned for being retarded? Aw that's too bad. Maybe you shouldn't be a complete idiot and hand people your account info. That's too bad. I really feel bad for the little idiot that tries map hacks and then cries about losing his account. That's a really sad thing. It's too bad you're not as smart as me, you'd never have this problem, I'm smart enough to catch phishing attempts in the middle of their attempt (I caught one in closed beta and warned the rest of the top 20 that got targeted).

There. That's what arrogant and condescending looks like.

No, that's ... *sigh* ... at risk of pissing someone off, I'll say it. THAT is called being an absolute dick. That would be different, worse.

Arrogant and condescending is exactly what you became with this post. I'm sorry, man. You may be right on this issue, but for you (who cannot possibly know for sure that you are) to talk like you *do* ... come on, man.

Or ... stick with me here ... some users are being stupid, yes, agreed, ... **AND** ... in other cases, there is an exploit ... that GGG ... DOES ... NOT ... KNOW ... ABOUT.

Whatever. We've made our points, and no matter what anyone says, you'll use the fact that you think their notions aren't probable to spout like a televangelist that you're right and everyone else is absolutely wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Okay. They're all wrong.

He is absolutely right btw. Although there are possibilities to have some fun with the conservatively designed, VERY basic security system, the issues aren't big enough to assume something different than your typical warez distribution, phishing and some easy scripts of hacked and published web dbs. All the people are just arguing with him because they don't like his German attitude lol.

He's speaking from statistics, not religious fervor.

It's much more likely, given the number of people hacked as a proportion of the game population, that every case was due to some user problem.

That does not say that's what was happened without any doubt. If GGG's explanations applied to you, then case closed, if not, then please contain your emotions until more evidence comes out.

There will be a change to the auth system within the next two days, at which point whatever hole exists should be closed and they can begin to collect all the evidence from those hacked and look for similarities.

I know, based on the evidence, what is likely. People that are denying so adamantly are doing it for a reason, they either are guilty and hope for some form of retribution (probably not likely in nearly every case, as GGG is sure making it a point not to help anyone out that got hacked), or they don't know why and how they got hacked. I understand why you'd think it isn't your fault. Using an email/password combo that you've used on another site, falling for a phishing scheme, etc. You're not given a giant sign that says, "You're getting hacked!".

Not realizing how you got hacked involves ignorance, plain and simple. No one here can claim with any certainty that the fault wasn't their own. They can claim it isn't their fault, they can convince themselves they weren't at fault, but they can't be certain that it wasn't their fault.

Alternatively, GGG can look at logs and see who's accessing accounts, what similarities these accounts getting hacked have, how it possibly could have been their fault. They have a lot of data to look at. They have a lot of evidence to look at. Data and evidence that users simply don't have. They've looked at all of this and stated quite plainly that it isn't their fault. I can't help but believe them. They know better than joe schmoe on the internet.
