Death Penalties

If a player is constantly dieing, hes doing something horrible wrong and deserves every possible punishment :)

THe Game should be Balanced around a character with 0 Moral, that way if someone cannot stay alive he wouldnt have any penalty to deal with (way less frustrating then an exp loss in the standart way)
And at the same time u reward and (hopefully) motivates more ppl to learn how to play in a decent way.

though i like the green aura with flies :)
Just because it’s not a permanent buff doesn’t mean it has to be easy to gain.

Something nice would be a realy hard difficulty level that you can only enter if you have full morale. If you die, you cannot retry it before you gain back morale to full. Like an hardcore mode :P

thats why i said that we do not know exactly how long one instance would be.
If it would take less then 10 Minutes for one, then it might be, or would have to be way to easy to gain moral if u want it to have any effect.
But as i sayed this is just guessing/beeing afraid of since we do not have this knowledge.

Maybe Chris could give us a number about that, befor we argue about it to long :)
And we're back to discussing fluffy, hand-holding death mechanics. Notice I called these recent ideas "death mechanics" and not "death penalties".

Why are people saying that death needs to be fun and that it can't be annoying or frustrating. Last I checked, death was supposed to be frustrating and not at all fun. Why even have death at all if you're going to remove all of its teeth and turn it into a pointless chore with no real meaning or impact on the game?

People need to realize that losing things as a result of death is just part of the game. If you're too fragile to handle that then you should go back to playing pretty pretty princess.

One of favorite games Morrowind and Oblivion have one of the harshest. You die in that game your dead. Still Quicksaves kind of circumvent that. I see death as something that should be punished. Otherwise death gives up its meaning.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
only nerds want death penalty's. I have better things to do than lose the exp I just earned.
Cheaper than free... Speedtree
I am a nerd.
Being a nerd has nothing to do with a proper death penalty.

As a recap we already have an experience penalty and a time sink walking back to the area were one died in the game.

This thread is to look for ways to add onto that.

But honestly, I really don't believe it's necessary to add much else on to that.

Also, giving players certain extra penalties would just cause other unintended behaviors.

Waiting for a penalty to go away, pointless time sinks, things like that are not great game-play mechanics.

@Rustychops. although I agree with you, I dont want to put up with some silly death penalty such as a debuff. I would much rather have a quick xp loss penalty then deal with something like moral.

When im having a lan, we usually make characters and we perfer to all be the same level. Introducing a new gameplay element that can negatively effect xp gain is just a bad idea sorry. Having somebody waiting in town because they got ahead of the group in xp is just bad.

Moral imo is just a -10%xp gain debuff that only goes away if you kill monsters.
It doesnt matter how difficult it is to get this buff, the fact that you can get this buff from killing gives people a lasting negative effect. I dont want whatever happened yesterday effecting my xp gain the next day.

I think having some 'unique' death penalty is very unnessesary for a game such as this.

Think about the result of that. People dont like constantly loosing. It usually results in a ragequit, sometimes an uninstall.

A player uninstalling is ggg loosing a potential customer.

Thats just my opinion anyway.
