Here's how it worked on Win7.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
- Installed Service Pack 1.
- Installed only updates KB2534366-x64 and KB2533552-x64.
- Opened the Path of Exile install folder:
> Redist folder
> Ran VC_redist.x86 that was located inside.
Path of Exile now works.
Hopefully this might help people who experience such issues.

Just thought i'd post my solution here for windows 8.1 users that worked for me
*FIXED FOR ME* WINDOWS 8.1 USERS YOU NEED THIS UPDATE (KB2919355)
32bit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42327
64bit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335
make sure that update is installed, it is quite big, and you may need some pre-requisites to be installed beforehand. update everything in windows update until you get that one.
once that is done, the 2015 redist will install just fine.
so yeah, if you havnt done a windows update for a while, you are going to need to.
Make sure its installed, you need it. Also (KB2999226) may need (KB2919355) to work
This one solved my " api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll " error.
Downloading the 64bit version for my Win 8.1, and then repairing VC Redist 2015 64. (i guess reinstalling would work as well) Thx a lot.
I hope GGG is still working on solution for people who didnt solve it yet.
I waited a whole night for a fix and I still can't play. Gonna try to do that and update once it's done.
This is not common from GGG to leave a problem like this for almost a day long. Things should be messed pretty badly right now.

Ok, so, here's my update:
I can't fucking open anything from Windows Explorer BECAUSE IT STOPS IT FROM WORKING.
Awesome! Now it's everything crashing because of a simple update.
I don't know what to do anymore...

Tried following some suggestions. Won't follow the "download winblows updates" and "enable auto updates" stuff. Hopefully GGG releases some fix for this that doesn't force me to compromise PC security.

Ok, after hours trying to solve this problem, I could make it right!
Step 1:
Uninstall all the older Visual C++ Redistributable from your computer.
Also uninstall the 2015 versions (for those who can't make it work)
Step 2:
Then you have to download the Windows Service Pack 1.
Which can be found here:
Step 3:
After that, fix the Windows Update Service.
Press the Windows Button + R on the keyboard, then type "services.msc"
Check if the module is 'Eneabled' and 'Started', then restart your computer.
Step 4:
Now open your Windows Update tool.
(You can click Start on the desktop and type "Update" on the search box if you can't find it in the control panel.)
Now, check for updates and update your Windows. Maybe the Update Tool will need to update itself first.
Let it do that. Then, when its finished, click 'Search for updates' and let it give you a list.
Now, you will only install the Important updates. Not the optional ones. Select just the lesser file sized updates and let it finish the proccess. After that, restart your computer once again.
Step 5:
Now you have to download these updates:
• KB2454826 x64
• KB2534366 x64
• KB2533552 x64
Install all the 3 updates. You'll have to restart your computer for every update, so be patient.
If the update says "Update already installed in your computer" just skip the step.
Step 6:
Now finally install the Windows Service Pack 1.
It will take a while, but please, be patient.
When it finishes, your computer will be restarted and you can install
the vc_redistx64 and vc_redistx86 provided by Tom_GGG.
All I described here (About the Windows Service Pack 1) can be found on the tutorial below:
http://www.pcnexus.net/2014/03/nstall-windows-7-service-pack-sp1-without-failure.html
I hope this helps guys! Have fun!
Flawless victory, it works for me, thx mate.
W7 (added sp1), steam.
Why the hell GGG does not find and give us solution for patching problems AGAIN??? Not mentioning no info about this patch and patching problems on main or announcments forum...
Not a gg GGG :(

DoctaLinker reporting in.
I made it work.
I had to update my Windows until himself could find that fix of 900mb somebody posted here.
Too bad, GGG, you guys got to do that without this.
It's just too much trouble for most people, and I bet most of them don't have the knowledge or the patience to keep searching for a fix for days.
Thank you guys who accompanied me in this journey, it has come to an end.
Now, let me get back to my farming.

I spent half a day trying everything I could imagine to install Windows 7 SP1 short of reinstalling Windows 7 entirely only to eventually figure out indeterminable corrupted system file(s) were preventing the update from installing. So I have to reinstall Windows 7, then go through the series of updates if I want to play POE again.
Thanks GGG.
