Any revised optimised tree for new patch? Lol contemplating to lvl my witch until I see some videos.
I was considering grabbing the potency duration near scion but it takes 6 points to get there :s

I think i'll stick with my current build and see how it goes.

Alrighty fixed my previous math and wrote up a little formula to calculate the changes

Formula

Old Duration
700+(700*(I+D))

New Duration
(1500+(Ix150)*(D+1))

Key
I = Intelligence divided by 100
D = % increased duration IE 45% increased = .45


Using this in order to get more duration value then we would have using the old formula we need to get 80% increased duration or more.

Assuming 1800 Int if you did use both the increased duration gem and potency of will then using the old formula this would result in a
7.84 second icestorm
Using the new formula is results in a
9.24 second icestorm

So we are better off then previously if we stack duration. It just sucks that we didn't need to do that at all before and you need a fair amount of duration to break even with the old formula if they were also getting duration.

When the patch hits I think I will test dropping avatar of fire, cold to fire and all the fire nodes.

I'll replace cold to fire with increased duration

With the new formula increased duration gem will give me a 7.3 second icestorm so pretty much same as before but with the massive damage loss of cold to fire gem but will bring back the freezing as a defensive mechanic

speccing out of fire will give me some new nodes. I may put them into melding with the energy from within jewel as it gives insane ES value but after dropping cold to fire I think I would want it all into damage.

Keep in mind this is for testing purposes. I may decide that cold to fire is still the way to go

Dayum. Just when I finished buying all items and leveling a witch, patch happened. :(
The duration nerf doesn't seem so bad, especially when you're running a cold build with about 1.2k Int. The old duration was about 4.1k and the new one is about 3.3k. Realistically, getting 25% increased duration is enough to put it right back where it was.

The nerf is definitely harder hitting on high Int builds, but then you have factor in how long is long? For general clearing, you probably don't need 9s of ice as most things are one-shotted. For heavy bosses, I tend to spam ice anyway, so the clock will always replenish itself.

All in all, the nerf is really weak. They didn't touch dps at all. It's not awesome they nerfed our duration, but it's not really grounds to be like "WI is dead, selling all gear for 1ex!" lol

I agree there's a point past which duration doesn't matter, but most of us aren't there yet. Your example is the exact case this hurts the most, bosses are where you'll see the largest increase in clear time because you're doing less damage with each cast and you can't stack as many on top of each other.
The nerf won't hurt regular mapping at all really. The damage will still tear through packs but the duration nerf will really lower the damage on uber atziri and those kinds of bosses where you hope to melt them before they can get a move off.

It should be workable though I don't think it will be dead or anything
