unique items *no longer updated*

What was the 55th item to complete the compendium?
It is good that uniques are hard to find. That way they stay unique. The fact that they are designed to give an edge to certain builds does not warrant a higher drop rate. Those builds are meant to be as unique as the items themselves. There's nothing interesting about a game where everything is accessible to everyone.

Okay, I suck at leaving threads. I'll bite this hook. Sorry, but I completely disagree with the notion that there's nothing interesting about a game where everyone has access to everything. Anyway, I never advocated that everyone should have everything; I suggested that everyone should at least have access to something meaningful. Months, weeks, or even several days spent playing through multiple difficulties without the payoff of a single unique is excessive. And excessive to the point where if it's not patched significantly by the final version of the game, I'll quit. Simple as that.

Second, dungeon crawlers, despite the development team's best efforts, are never going to rival fully-blown MMORPGS. It's just not going to happen, and it shouldn't even be attempted. That said, a forced economy that revolves around unlucky players having to beg for barter with those who trip on splendid gear is frustrating and inhibitory to serious enjoyment of the game. What the crap am I going to trade someone for a Death Harp or a Lion's Eye Glare if I can't find anything unique to save my life? A million of the silly currency orbs that the person with the unique has doubtlessly already stored up? A random piece of rare gear with the same mods that every third sword already has? I don't see this as being viable, sorry.

Any game of this type should be programmed from the ground up to offer essentially the exact same experience whether played solo, or in parties. The sole exceptions ought to be the level of difficulty and the presence or lack of needless text clutter. If I can't log in on my own and expect to obtain the same loot drops that a team of four can, then the game is fundamentally broken.

You may disagree; that is your right. But catering to individuals or "lone wolves" will do nothing to reduce the quality of the experience party-based players have. Not doing so will guarantee that many of us move on in short order, never to return.

On a different note, I've found that the items linked on the first page have league tags on them. Are they available individually in every league, and only carry those tags because of their respective owners? Or can you only find them in the league they're labeled with?

That's just the league that particular copy was found in. You can find them in every league with the same exact drop chance. Most of them are in default because that's where most of the playerbase is.

Thank you very much. I was worried that I'd wasted a lot of Orbs of Chance trying to gamble my way into a Lion's Eye Glare for no reason. I guess I did either way, but at least I know it's possible now.

Yes, you trade them for "silly currency orbs". Doesn't matter if he already has a lot of those, the point of currency is that you can always use more of them.

As far as I know those bows are two of the more expensive uniques so you might have to save some orbs, but if you really feel like you need a unique bow (even though rare bows are often much better) then it really shouldn't be that hard to save up for them.

As for the whole lone wolf thing, this game is meant as a multiplayer game and trading is one of the main reasons people play. You can play however you want but if you choose to play a different way than most people do you can't expect the developers to design the game around your playstyle.

Also don't act like making uniques more common wouldn't hurt anyones experience. Finding a unique is supposed to feel special and when you make them drop all the time you take that feeling away. And stop with the whole "if you don't do exactly what I want many people will leave this game and the game will die etc." thing, it's getting old.
First, who said that I'm asking for frequent unique drops? I never said that; even the others who agree with me never said that. Those are your words, not ours. You can't make the argument that there are insanely rare drops (right now uniques may literally be 1/1,000,000) and extremely common drops, and nothing in between. I'm asking for a shade of grey and you keep telling me that there's only room for purest black in PoE because of... well, I couldn't even begin to guess why, really. It just doesn't make any sense at all.

And regarding ultimatums, I'm not trying to make threats or speak for a large portion of the game's player base. But if you think that I'm the only person who largely regards gaming as a solo hobby and doesn't play point-and-click dungeon crawlers to plumb their social depths then you're kidding yourself. I didn't try to say that if I'm not obeyed I'm going to boycott the product. I simply said that if I and people who enjoy the game the way I happen to are completely (and needlessly) overlooked in the design process, then it will kill the game for us.
TzarChasm,

When designing an online multiplayer game you can't please everyone. There is no way to please you within the confines of a single intraconnected game without inflating the game economy. I guess it could be done in a totally independent non-connected premium league that players must pay to participate in. But that goes against the whole persistent online world concept.
