Personally, I think that currently uniques are too rare. I've finished the demo on the first difficulty and I'm nearly at the end of the first act on the second round, but I still haven't seen a single one. That left me honestly believing that they simply hadn't been included in the beta whatsoever. Perhaps Diablo has spoiled me, but I'm used to Unique weaponry showing up at least once per play session, even if it's not immediately useful to my character.

Check out my horrible luck, out of all my levels (in my sig) I never found a unique in months of playing until yesterday which was the Acrobatics armor lol.

Wow, I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I understand that the developers said that they'd like to make unique gear very build focused, but why even strive for a particular build if its best augmented by gear that you can play for weeks or months and never find? It *might* seem more worthwhile if you were guaranteed that when a unique dropped it was somehow tailor-suited to your character's needs, but there's no way the game can do that. With my luck I'll be raising up my bow ranger, farming for the Death Harp or something, and get a pair of gloves that boost the effects of ice magic. -.-

I really don't mean to sound too contentious, but this absolutely screams for patching. If they're that rare to begin with, just pull them from the game entirely.

I don't see the problem. If you find a unique you can't use, why not trade it for the unique you're looking for?

It's not a single player game.

The point of the uniques is that they encourage people to build characters around them after they find them, not so much before.
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out.
Heard its twisted dreamed inanity
In a whisper, in a shout.
In the babbling cacophony
The refrains are all the same:
"[permutations of humanity]
are unworthy of the name!"

If you're planning a build thats based on a unique item or multiple uniques that you have yet to find, then you're doing it wrong. That's like applying for a job that requires a specific 4 year degree and you've never stepped a foot in a college or university. As Skivverus said, "The point of the uniques is that they encourage people to build characters around them after they find them, not so much before."

The game is in closed beta. It's incomplete. Should GGG just pull the game entirely and not let anyone play? Uniques are rare because there just aren't that many of them. GGG's plan, I believe, is to have at least 1 unique variant for every item base type.Whoever said that they were spoiled by Diablo 2 is absolutely right. In the future, uniques will be a lot more common but uniques are still meant to be rare because of the types of mods they contain. They are meant to supplement characters at various stages of the game, or certain build types, with rare items having the potential to be the strongest of all.
Definitely don't take uniques from the game. Yes, I had the misfortune of having to wait so long to find one, but when I finally seen it laying there on that chaos ledge I got more excited then I have in my whole time in this cbt haha.

I have also made new characters to help out new players and seen them find one before level 10. So it's all luck of the draw. But as Facelicker said GGG plans to implement many more uniques so they will be more common in the future. If everyone found one every run there wouldn't be much excitement over it. My 2 cents

To me, virtually all games are single-player games. I don't ever intend to party or trade with other people in PoE, nor do I expect to PvP. If I can't find it in my game, I can't have it.

I'll just leave the thread at this point, rather than irritate people with a dissenting opinion. I know those aren't welcome on the Internet. But I really am shocked to see anyone defend these items being this rare.

Everyone is certainly entitled to play the game as they see fit but the devs intended this to be a MP and will design/balance it as such. Obviously trying to play the game as pure SP is going to lead to a less than ideal experience.
They are supposed to be rare, once the game opens and thousands of people are playing, oranges will hit the market all the time.

So for example myself, PoE Beta player since 0.9.1 that NEVER found any unique from drop.....

I feel encouraged like hell.

I wait with final judgement until we have ~200 uniques ingame but i must say that current drop rate is too low for me. Its not fun to play HnS for couple of months and not see any unique drop.
So trade for it, it doesn't take 2 months to accumulate enough wealth to buy one, and that's with the tiny beta market even...
