Tips / FAQ for new players

Few more tips:

Skill Tree:

-For first playthrough with any particular class check forums for a good build suggestions
-If you want to play harder difficulties, know what skills you are aiming at before investing points
-do not invest points in too many directions at once. One is ideal.
-do not invest points in +10 str/dex/int unless those lead to a skill you need for your build
-try to pick skills that complement each other. For example if you are getting Blood Magic you might want to consider hp increasing skills or hp regeneration or if got bow knockback, get some increased critical chance skills.
-don't go overboard with above rule. Don't go for the skills that complement your build if they are too far or if they are too small of an increase. Have some diversity in your skills.
-Unless you know what you are doing, go for skills that are close to where you start or to other skills you decide to get
-In most cases its a good idea to pick at least one 'large' skill. Those are the ones that are surrounded by an intricate borders and usually are at the edge of the tree. Again check forums or ask other people before picking one.
-Get some defense. You'll be fine in normal difficulty with just offensive skills but beyond you'll need at least some defense.
-if you are not sure if some skill is worthwhile ask someone on forums or in game

Orbs:
-save your rare orbs for later levels and for when you know how to use them. Rare orbs include divine, exalted, regal, blessed, scouring, chaos, alchemy and gemcutter.
-use gemcutter only on 15% or higher gems and only after you have researched whether this gem is still viable at higher levels.
-know your recipes: there is an excellent thread listing all discovered recipes.

Feel free to incorporate this in original post, Malice.

Are Quest reward gems chosen based on stats or character choice?

I have a dualist Ranger with 90 Intel; 68 Str and 135 Dex. The only Quest Reward gems that appear are green and red. Having a selection of green and blue gems would fit my build far more than these red gems that I can't use.

If the gems offered were based on stats, then we could take passives that would eliminate this problem.

Why does GGG hate Rangers so much. They used to be fun, now it's just constant kiting.
I don't know if this counts but selling a gem of each color and any amulet to the store gives you an onyx amulet which gives +1 to all stats which is very helpful for hybrid classes of any kind.
Actually anywhere from 10 to 20 tempz. Its been posted in the master list of things to be sold to shops.

Also its strange seeing people from SEN here xD

It's purely based on your character class.
Sometimes when you id items and sell the item(s) will sell of alteration instead of transmutation shards if it sells for a scroll instead it will not change if id so don't id those items.

These are called Keystone Passives.
Great FAQ, rather handy for answering a few questions that have arisen for me! One thing though - selling has now been enabled, so the line about not being able to sell anything yet could probably do with being removed ;)

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder
Hi, after play with a Duelist and then a Ranger... my tip will be:

"Choose a bow 'til you get a pair of swords".

For me is easyer to begin with a bow playing like Hit & Run for a while until that i can enter in the close range with a good sword or two and then... go ahead with the Hack & Slash style at like lvl 8 or so, once that i can stand a few good hits. This 'lil tricka never failed to me with a Ranger or Duelist, H&R and then H&S; that's my tip. Let's C ya
Punk's Not Dead = Semper Fi.
