From other games people have a habit of ignoring defensive skills like armor, evasion, life, etc and instead try to max out their damage. As you get into the higher difficulties, you'll realize that defensive skills are not optional. Do not make the mistake of ignoring them until it's too late.

Agree with Tpapp here, build a balanced character or die often.
