Remove xp penalty's from death

the issue is the current penalty is fine, until you hit 85+, and the the 10% goes out of wack due to the insance increase in xp needed to level.

The current penalty is more forgiving early as it doesn't actually mean anything, once you get a better character with better gear and even party the risk of deing out of your control should be very low. Therefore the penalty is fine as it gives you the ability to get better over time and improve your character, but not just rush to level 100 and it be guaranteed.

Perhaps its about time to stop repeating over and over your point of view on the matter in the same thread?
If I dont reply to you - I dont give a flying duck about your opinion

So we should have stopped 30 pages ago you're saying?

It's obviously this thread is going no where, only took me a week to realize it. But I was bored so had fun with the circlejerk.

I think Alex is talking about YOU Moosifer. People keep coming up with different ideas, but you keep repeating the same thing over and over. You refuse to budge on anything, and it is getting old hearing your "you died, you shouldn't have died" speach.

Obviously not, even though I agree with Moosifer on this issue (as well as other people too) Obviously in a feedback thread those that suggest not changing because of this or that will be less popular then those that do want something changed.

I haven't posted in like a page or two. Would be amazing for him to be replying to specifically me.

I had a good discussion going with Vhlad but he didn't respond to my last reply to him. You I have very little respect for because you're championing literally any idea that isn't keeping it the same. I also am not sure I can respect someone who doesn't play anything but his lvl 100. You just don't have enough experience playing to give a real opinion on these matters. Ya, you have a lvl 100, you've done the grind but all you're doing is arguing from the POV of your grind to 100. You don't know the progress of making characters.

There's no way of saying that without it coming across as an insult but I'm not trying to be offensive. We have radically different views of the game. You're arguing for personal gain and I'm arguing for what I feel is best for the game. I think people factoring deaths at high level when making a build is meaningful. I brought up my 99 and how I made adjustments to avoid death, just today I got sick of the 3 deaths I had yesterday on my 87 so I made some major adjustments to try and stop it from happening. I think what I did is healthy for the game and helps the community grow as a whole. While I don't personally release my builds, people like me who do all these leg work make it so other's can build off their work. I mean LL ST builds spawned from a couple of guys I know who did them on reave first. The ideas get taken and made better by the collective.

It's trial by fire and I have always looked for ways to improve the game, not just my individual builds. So when someone with one build is giving feedback I always question their motives. I just don't see how you can be impartial.

So if everything I've said in this thread has boiled down to "don't die" to you, so be it. I won't change your mind, I don't give a shit really either. But what I am hoping is that short sightedness doesn't give GGG the idea that you're opinion is the majority as a game that has many players proud to be "altaholics" aren't represented by your playstyle and views.

I came to this game from world of warcraft. I wanted to level up to 100, and make my character the best it could. If new patches come out that have new melee abilities, then I will adapt accordingly, but right now, I hit the max level, got all my masters to 8, running the best in slot items, done most if not all content (not uber atziri because I'm not throwing away 8 ex just to see if i can kill him)

So in my journey, I found that getting to level 100 gives you a new freedom when it comes to mapping without being super anal and pussy footing around. I wish I could have enjoyed the entire game this way.

So I have been trying to figure out 'Why' I enjoy mapping so much now at level 100. At first thought, I remember weeks and weeks on end, in the middle of level 97-98, when I could not do ANY map that was not pack size due to fear of losing 10% (5 Hours of my treasured time. I have job as well, so 5 hours of my freetime is very treasured to me. And I don't think its fair they can take that time away)

Yes, can you do every single map, killing 1 monster at a time, taking it very slow? Yes. Why does this game reward those who take things overly slow, super paranoid, no fun.

Thats why at level 100, I get to enjoy myself. I get to do hard maps, double beyond, atziri whenever I want. Of course I still don't want to die, that would waste a port. But if god forbit some crazy shit did go down, its not nearly as Night Ending/Rage Quitting as losing 5 hours of grinding.

From level 90-100 your character pretty much is at its highest potential. But the risk / chance % of death continues to rise. The 10% xp penalty works the entire game, from level 1 all the way until 85. But GGG DID NOT think how a 10% would be affected by the experience curve being multiplied by thousands. This is the issue.

I wish others can enjoy maps the way I do, without the fear of the 10% death penalty. I wish there was a switch to turn your xp "OFF" which means for the map, you don't lose xp, but you don't gain xp either.

So if you know a map looks hard, looks Riip'y, or you just don't have a good feeling, you can turn the xp off so you can enjoy the map without risking your hard earned XP.

This will allow people leveling from 95-100 to be able to 'relax', take a couple maps off, do some hard maps to blow off some steam. The problem is the lack of time these players are at 0%. People say, just wait until you level until you do hard maps. Easy to say if you level 3 times a day. But if its weeks and weeks, of logging in, doing pack size + dom rot after rot before you reach 0% and can take a break and do some enjoyable maps.

We've heard this story before. You don't find that losing XP was fun, hell no one probably does, but just because you don't lose XP once you get to level 100 doesn't mean you can't have fun until you get there.

You have the mentality that if you are playing in standard you can't have fun because you risk losing 10% XP, if that is how you feel or others feel then that is terrible. XP loss should not prevent you from having fun, but getting those last 5-10 points for skill tree should not be an easy task, if it was everyone would do it and in this game it wasn't designed for everyone to do it, at least not easily.

Turning off XP is simple, just give no fucks if you die. If you are grinding to 100 and not having fun, why the fuck are you playing to begin with?

The XP penalty does nothing before level 80, nodda, as you mentioned it takes less then an hour in most cases to recover that XP, so the game gives you time to get a better character\build before it becomes punishing. Not sure why you can't understand this concept, this game isn't "fair" it is after all a hardcore arpg game.

Of course we can go in circles over and over again beating the horse, still won't change the fact that it is both balanced and fair overall.

Um... "Turning off XP is simple, just give no fucks if you die" oh thats easy. You know if you have 4%, thats a couple hours of work already, no matter if your trying to level or not, XP is constantly being earned. So therefore, you will ALWAYS lose something if you die, unless you just died and are at 0%.

So Yes, you can give no fucks, but even if you give no fucks, the game takes away time that you spent gaining XP. So lets think of it this way, I tell you that my punch will hurt you. So I punch you, and you say "oh that wasn't bad, do it again", so i hit you again, and you once again say "oh that wasn't bad". Just because you say "that wasn't bad", doesn't mean that shit didnt hurt. Just becasue you say "I'm not worried about leveling", doesn't stop you from gaining xp. You will gain XP wether you want to level or not.

And I'm sorry Goetz, but I am really not alone with my views of playing the game. My Avatar in Wrathcrest is Lokailith, I am a level 100 Marauder.

If you are grinding to 100 and not having fun, why are you playing to begin with? To Get 100 and not have to worry about the stupid XP penalty. Yes, if there wasn't an XP penalty, I wouldn't have had the motivation to push to 100. Its sad, but the only perk right now about being 100 is that you don't lose XP when you die. And IMO thats worth it, just because I hate the penalty. And If my research comes out to be true about the group getting more XP if a level 100 is in your group, then there will be 2 Perks to getting to 100 :)

Just like playing World of Warcraft, the point is to beat the game at a certain point in time. And I did, I'm patiently waiting for new content for End Gamers :)

Already did all core game
Hit level 100
Did all sacrifice of vaal
Did all Forsaken Masters Lvl 8
Get the Best in Slot items for your build

So currently, path of exile is 'beaten' in my eyes, So I will continue to map and patiently wait for new content. That doesn't mean I will forget all my thoughts about the xp penalty that I had while doing the journey.
