Remove xp penalty's from death
" But tell us how this affects YOUR ability to play the game. Tell us how this stops YOU from applying your own penalty equally as arbitrary as the XP penalty. Is tthe elitist attitude so integral to your enjoyment of the game that people having fun outside of your established standard of what is "Hardcore" detrimental to your ability to play the game and have YOUR OWN fun? " But you are assuming that most people dont already have motivation to not die for a multitude of reasons. It could be the loss of map portals for some, others just hate dying in any game no matter the consequences, others, like myself, try to avoid dying just because i hate backtracking, I hate it so much I wont play any tileset where tons of backtracking is guaranteed such as solaris or underground river. My point is, if you feel the need to create builds that are super balanced in terms of EHP/DMG, whats stopping you? If you feel the need to build for 150% life in order to validate yourself whats stopping you? Absolutely nothing is what. All i see is an attitude of elitism. This "Hardcore" title gives a bunch of people hard ons for themselves and any thought of the game becoming less "Hardcore" is terrifying to these people. One less thing they can stroke with and all that good jazz. Anywho, If you really feel an absolute need to be punished for death, play hardcore or impose your own penalties if you feel its too easy. Nothing stopping you. For me, personally, I have pretty much accepted it will never change. As such all support from me has ceased and my gameplay hours have significantly declined because of it and if it were different i would probably have spent a lot more than i already have, in terms of free time and actual money. Hell, as far as im concerned just remove the xp penalty in standard, because lets face it, standard ladder no longer matters at all. Hardcore leagues and temp leagues could maintain their penalties for those who desire competition. Either way, nobody has explained how other people enjoying a game differently affects them when this is a primarily PvE game. This is what I would like to see. A response not fueled by elitism or e-peen stroking because of "hur deee dur Hardcore!". |

" lol, you're one of a kind. So, at first... who said I was struggeling with this very haku mission? I had a long PoE brake and knew that Haku Mission were kind of stupid when they were released. Now I startet to play again and so far, the mission are still stupid as hell, I made it out there alive every time though. Why wouldn't I go back in... stability issues? Are you kidding? Like THAT was the problem? :D Then you're telling me the game needs to teach me some behavior... You still realise that you're playing a game right? Which is usually supposed to be fun and entertaining, and not so much frustrating. The funny part to me is, that you pretty much only play Softcore characters... Anyway... a solution for me would be something as the following: Seperate Hardcore and Standart completely! New Softcore Leagues still should be transfered to Standart Leagues, Hardcore characters who die however, should be transfered to a new Server (called it whatever you like - it's supposed to be similar to the standart league). The only difference: the standart league doesn't oppose harsh exp penalties, the hardcore equvialent however would. That way, you have people who want a hardcore expierence and are only surrounded by like-minded poeple. And on the other hand you have people who want to enjoy a game and are also only surrounded by like-minded people. |

" I would also like to know, since when is "Hardcore player" defined by being able to copy builds, stack multiple layers of defense while also piling on the HP nodes, to then play zero risk content until your eyes bleed? Because technically, and its actually been done too, you can farm library 17 hours a day for 2 months and hit lvl 100 if you want. Absolutely zero risk. Is that "Hardcore"? Does THAT impress you too? |

" You did. " *You point out connection issues. Clearly if you want to avoid dying you should be wondering what's causing them and whether or not you should proceed. You ignore this and go right back to what you were doing. If this is incorrect, please clarify rather than assume I'm stupid. " You got to 88, which looking at your character is by far your highest meaning most of your game knowledge is from there, a post masters character, meaning unless you didn't do any haku missions until then you should know which are risky and how to play them. Also you didn't make it out alive every time as you apparently died twice on this very mission. " A game without rules is a game no one plays. The game is fun and entertaining and having a death penalty adds an extra layer of complexity as players need to design a character that can clear and survive the content or have their progression halted. Figuring out your defenses are as important as your offense, which is what GGG wanted to achieve with the death penalty. " If I played only HC it would be stupid for me to speak about what rules should apply to other leagues. I play only SC leagues so my say is just as important as your's as I'm under the same rules. Your death on your lvl 88 has much less impact than a death on my 99 but I still support the penalty. As a death costs me a day or more of work I adjusted my build so it was able to survive tougher situations, the death penalty single handily help me craft a better character, as in the end it was more well rounded. Also the changes made me look for better offensive options to make up for what I was sacrificing for EHP. " A complicated and unnecessary solution for something that isn't a major problem. " But who set these arbitrary definitions of "Good Build" and "Bad Build"? Because the only builds i see getting to 100 are builds that take basically no offense and just stack defenses to the moon, all the while partying in full parties in order to make up for their lack of DPS, turtling through the maps at a snails pace. Its not to say there is anything wrong with building that way, i know a lot of people truly do enjoy playing "The Total Tank" Why should a build have to spend the majority of its passives on defense in order to be considered a "Good" build? And to Moosifer, Just because you were lucky enough to obtain a weapon upgrade after stacking higher defenses doesnt mean thats realistsic for anyone else. Since masters came you know how many 300+ Dps weapons Ive crafted? 0. Not one. And I have been really making an effort to craft myself an upgrade, RNG doesnt seem to agree that I should be able to make myself an upgrade. My best weapon is still that same fucking sword i found almost 2 years ago in city of sarn. Let me tell you, no way in hell am I going to drop some of the already pitiful damage this sword provides just to get minimally more defense yet still have to play like a total pussy. @Moosifer
To keep it simple: you feel the need for the exp penalty so people build their character around it, yet you're not even willing to play on a hardcore server (which would stress these qualities even more). Because what I and many others are saying is: that the exp penalty for standart servers has to change. For people who feel the need for harsh death penalties, there just is the hardcore league. ;) And yes sure, my solution isn't simple. It isn't the only one though! There are plenty of good/better solutions out there. |

Would really like to know what people think about it, other than Moosifer and Goetzjam. Not because their views are any less valid than mine, but because this thread is really the same 6 or so people making up the debate.
We clearly know where each other stand on it, so what about others? |
