By late 2008, our founders had put together a detailed game design document outlining the plan for Path of Exile. Surprisingly many of the elements described in this document made it into the full game, including ones that were implemented many years after Path of Exile's release. Behind the Scenes: How Weta Workshop made the Kitava Statue

Tencent, our publishers of Path of Exile in China, recently worked with Weta Workshop to create a sculpted version of Kitava for promotional purposes. Weta Workshop is based here in New Zealand and we're very excited to see their immensely talented team working with Path of Exile concepts. The Design and Development of the 3.1.0 Gems

In the recent War for the Atlas expansion we introduced 9 new gems, including four Skill gems that focused on necromancy, and five support gems. Each of these were designed to augment as many skills as possible in new and interesting ways. In early 2007, Jonathan, Erik and Chris started planning the five-act structure of Path of Exile. By late 2008, specific details had been decided regarding the contents of these acts. Plans like the non-linear layout of Act 2 and the surprise-PvP component to the bandit quests were already laid down. While almost everything they planned was eventually implemented and lives on in modern Path of Exile, there is one aspect that didn't go at all according to plan, and was toned down massively to just become a relatively unremarkable monster type.
